How do I get rid of the smell of Naphthalene off my clothes??HELP!!?
Question:I desperately need to get rid of the smell because I want to wear the clothes that I have recevied but the smell is soooo strong and I have tried washing them(made my washing machine stink for 2 weeks!!)
I am too scared to put them in vinegar(as some of my friends have advised)because I'm afraid the clothes will lose its color!
Please I need some serious help(and no I won't throw them away so don't even write that)
Answers:
Soak in eucalyptus oil over night, or may sound drastic but have you thought of boiling them? or steaming them? In clothing shops they steam the clothes to not only remove creases but also smells
Have you tried giving them an airing in the sun the ultra violet should break down the c chemical
I might be helpful to know how you got that smell in your clothes. Was it from handling mothballs? Do you work in a petroleum plant?
Odor can be a bear to get out, but there are a couple of things you might try. The first is using an oxygen bleach and letting your clothes soak in it. Oxygen is a natural deodorizer and may do the trick. Oxyclean might be the answer. If not, you probably would want to try some sort of mild delimolene (citrus) based degreaser/solvent. Most of these are sold only to industrial and commercial businesses. Probably your best bet would be to take it to your shirt laundry/dry cleaner and ask them what they would do to get this odor out, and you might suggest using the citrus based solvent. ( you can ask about delimolene, but they may or may not know what you are talking about).
Good luck.
Just try dabbing a bit of vinegar on a small area of the garments, where you won't notice it if it does have an effect, and leave it overnight. If undiluted vinegar did not harm them, then do try a vinegar soak, because you are supposed to dilute the vinegar (about 1 cup to each litre of water).
Good luck, I know how you feel about your clothes, so I really hope you can get rid of the smell!
