Help with vacuum bags?
Question:We have a problem with accessable space in our house, the only real storage is in the cellar which is to damp to store anything, to get around this i have been storing stuff in vacume bage to keep the moisture and therefore mold out.
I now want to store my winter duvet and sleeping bag down there but i've been repeatedly told that storing down products compressed is bad, i was just wondering if i put the duvet and sleeping bag into box then into the bag to stop the actual duvet/sleeping bag from compressing whether anyone would know any reason why this wouldn't work
Cheers

This would probably work without any problems unless the corners of the box poked through the bag under vaccume. It wouldn't matter if the box was crushed a little bit as long as the duvet isn't tightly compacted which will ruin the down. You may be able to find a plastic tupperware container with a tight enough seal that you could place it in that rather than put it in a vaccume bag.
I would also reccomend a high capacity dehumidifier for your basement. I've got one that I run around the clock in my basement and I dump about about 3 gallons of water a day out of it. A good one will set you back about $250 and your electric bill will be a bit more, but in the long run it will be worth it.
it will mold, use the bags, and buy yourself a small DE humidifier for your basement, run it 24/7 this will dry out your basement and eliminate mold,
Neat idea, but it would have to be a very tough box so it wouldn't collapse under the vacuum. In which case why bother with the vacuum and just seal the box...
go to a car boot sale dehumidifiers are about £5, i learnt the hard way and payed £130
