Does regular Scotchgard have any adverse affect on leather??
Question:I used it to spray my fabric handbag, but it has leather trim, and it got on it, I just wanted to know if it will harm the leather in any way... (it's an expensive handbag)
Thank you all...
Answers:
Scotchguard isn't for leather, but if its just some trim on
a handbag, it should be OK. Did the trim change color
or darken where the spray covered it? I wouldn't worry
too much if the color is OK. Just be careful if you reapply
the Scotchguard again in the future. Its not reccommended
for leather as it seals up the pores and the leather needs
to "breath" There are rainproofing sprays made just for
leathers, but I wouldn't go buy it just for trim.
"Pure silicone spray" (Hardware store) is what should be used on the leather (water proof, not sticky like scotch guard)
Almost any product will darken the leather. This is a common silicone just for leather and it darken leather by just a shade.
