How do you wash and dry a quilt?
Question:i need to wash my sheets and comfitor but dont know how to wash a quilt
Answers:
I always take mine and put them in the washer.Fill with warm water and detergent.then let it sit,no agitation needed. Then put it on spin and get all the water out.Fill with water for rinse and softener.Let it sit again and spin that out. Then air dry on line.I'm careful with mine, they are old.I like Era plus cleans well and smells good.
sheets you can wash in the washer in dryer but I would take your quilt to a dry cleaner.
A comforter you can wash in the washer and dryer too but you put the washer on extra large cause comforters are huge and wah them in cold or warm depending on the tag and laundry detergent.
For sheets I usually wash them in warm water in the washer with laundry detergent and then put them in the washer.
I hope that helps!
I wash mine in a front loading washer. If you don't have one, take it to the laundry mat and wash it there. The front loading washers are much easier on your fabrics than a top loader. If you do it in a top loader, you risk it getting ripped. Wash it alone.
If it is a real quilt, like with hand-quilting and a bunch of little pieces sewn together-DO not wash it in the washing machine or use a dryer.
If it is old and fragile, take it to a dry cleaners which WILL do it. There are lots of them that won't take a chance on ruining it.
Otherwise, lay it in accordion folds in the bath-tub, and run cold water over it. Let it sit a while, and then gently wash with Ivory soap or flakes BY HAND. Try to pick up as much of the quilt at once as you can lift. Pulling it sideways or twisting it, will pull stitches out, and damage it permanently.
You might try using a plunger to swish the water out.
When you have rinsed it 2-3 times to get all the suds out, gently squish the water out, and roll in a big towel(s)
Take it outside and hang it on a clothesline or lay it on a big table or several chairs. Turn it over so the sun doesn't bleach it out, or hang it in the shade.
If you do this, it will last for 100 years. and you can pass it down to your child.
