How do I get my towels soft and fluffy after washing.?
Question:I have tried fabric conditioners but my towels are still hard and not soft and fluffy.
Answers:
you might want to try a fabric softner when you wash your towels, or maybe some dryer sheets when you throw your laundry into the dryer. sometimes the type of detergent you use may make a difference
Liquid fabric softener in the rinse cycle.
if your water is hard it takes longer but add extra fabric softner to the rinse cycle of the load also don't overpack the washer or it defeats the purpose because the softner can't float through the fabric, I wash at the most 5 or six towels at a time depending on the size, I will also throw in a fabric sheet in the dryer for added scent. Don't over dry the towels it dries the cotton out.
try adding baking soda to the last rinse.
Gain fabric softener is really good and leaves a long scent.
Fabric Softeners, while they'll make your towels soft, will absolutely RUIN the absorbency of the towel.
If you have already added softener to the wash and it hasn't helped it's probably because of hard water. Buy some water softener and add with your detergent. If I want extra soft towels, I wait for the rinse cycle and shut off the washer. Next I add Downy fabric softener to the water and let them soak for 15 minutes. Turn on the washer and let then finish. My towels come out of the dryer so fluffy.
1. DON'T over soap as this will make them hard.
2. DO rinse well to rid all the soap/detergent.
3. DO dry outside in the sun and wind as this will sterilise and fluff up your towels.
4. DO add any required item [softener, soda, lemon, vinegar, etc] to adjust your water, if necessary.
5. DO air/dry your towels after every use as leaving them damp can encourage them to go hard.
Dryer balls. Yes, they will beat against the towels and soften them. http://www.nellieslaundry.com/ is a site that sells them.
You may also want to try 1/4 cup white vinegar in your rinse cycle to remove detergent residue.
I have found that if my towles or clothing are hard if you put them in the dryer on air dry they come out fluffy. Bounce is good for getting the towles fluffy and soft.
Don't use fabric softner on towels, then they will not be absorbent. Make sure you are getting all traces of detergent out of your towels. Try rinsing them again, if the water is soapy or cloudy you have used too much detergent.
