How do you cut fabric in a straight line?
Question:I want to take 6 inches off of a slip (the fabric doesn't have a finished edge anyway. ) What's the best way to ensure an even hemline?
Answers:
If the slip is even now, either get ahold of one thread at the point you want to cut it, clipped at both ends, and pull it. That will leave a straight line for you to follow when cutting it.
If you can't pull a thread, measure 6 inches up from the bottom at both sides, the center front, and center back, putting a mark at each point. Draw a line to connect the marks and follow that line when cutting the fabric.
You could use a ruler and mark the hem all the way around the same distance from the bottom. Make the marks about 2 inches apart and then cut connecting the marks as you go.
Use a yard stick (or something similar)to guide you...=)
Get some fabric chalk and a ruler, draw a line along where you wish to cut with the fabric chalk and cut with fabric shears.
Fabric chalk washes out easily, a ruler is straight and fabric shears are purely for cutting fabric and prevents damage by using the wrong type of scissors.

Yay I am level 2 nows! =D Cheers ;-)
Lay it out flat on a table. Get a ruler. Mark slip anywhere along hem line with a straight pin (or pencil) showing how much you want to cut off. Measure the distance from the bottom edge of hemline to that mark you made. If it's, say, 2 inches, then measure that same distance at several points along the hemline: both side seams, the center of the front & the center of the back. Then you can even draw a straight line on the slip from mark to mark if you want. Cut along that straight line.
