Does anyone know what will get candle wax out of fabric?

Question:Candle wax dripped on my new very expensive couch and I cannot get the wax film off of the fabric. Any ideas?

Answers:
Before rubbing it in or trying to wash it with any type of water or soap, first pick or peel off as much as you can with your nail or the side of a credit card, see how much you can get off that way before using any other cleaning method (which I'm sure you can find on the web), I say this because I got wax on a cotton jacket once & washed it & the staine NEVER came out, had I picked the wax off first I probabbly would have had better luck, look on your washing machine (if you have one) usually under the lid there will be tips on how to get out certain stains from certain fabrics. I have this book called "How to Clean Practically Anything" so I just looked this up for you (hope u appreciate this), there is a section on removing wax from carpets & floors (doesn't say anything about couches but a carpet is "fabric" and so is your couch so maybe this will work, it says: Freeze the wax with an ice cube then using the side of a spoon or blunt spatula, scrape off as much as possible. I also found this odd tip for removing chewing gum & wax stains (I would double check this one though since I never heard it before): Rub about 1/2 tsp full strength liniment (eg: Ben-Gay) into the affected area, heat w/a hair dryer and wipe with polyethelene squares 9I have no clue what they are) follow w/ mild deteregent & a rinse. Hopefully out of all this, you can solve your wax dilemma.

brown paper and a hot iron

cover fabric with paper then iron over paper
bit at a time renewing paper all the time
Depends on what the Wax is made of But Fingernail polish remover with Acetone just about will work on anything! Its strong but safe stuff , But not near flames. Good luck with the wax :)
Take a piece of paper bag and place it over the wax. Apply pressure with a hot iron onto the paper. As the wax melts it is absorbed by the paper. Keep moving the paper around to dry areas to continue the process.
On clothing put paper on both sides of material.
hey easy man...put the non shiny side of a brown paper bag on the fabric and iron it
Place a paper towel on the wax; heat your iron to the lowest setting. Iron the paper towel over the wax in gentle circular motions. As the paper towel absorbs the wax, move to a clean place on the towel.
Place an ice cube on the wax for 3-5 minutes. When brittle, chip off the excess wax with an egg lifter or similar utensil. Then place a folded paper towel over the area and hold a warm- to medium-heat iron on the towel for a few seconds. When you lift the iron, you'll see the paper has absorbed the melted wax. Do not move the iron around or you'll spread the wax. Several applications with fresh paper towels may be necessary. Any dye left over can usually be removed with a little rubbing alcohol or paint thinner (if you dare). Good luck!
Place a paper bag over the wax and use a warm iron on top of the bag. It will melt the wax and the paper bag will soak it up. It make take lots of passes with the iron, but you will see it work immediately.
heat with a hair dryer, then blot w/ papertowel & repeat
