How do I know if I have serratia?
Question:I'm in relatively good health and I don't get sick often, have a pretty balanced diet, but I noticed that my sink, shower and toilet have this pink ring around it when it gets dirty. I found this FAQ on the Internet which describes the issue www.icwd.org/water_faq.html, but further investigation (googling for serratia) indicates its a disease? Is the pink stuff in the toilet and shower an indicator I have the disease? Or is this something in the air in my home?
Answers:
It is the beginning of mildew. Try cleaning it with Clorox and that will kill the mildew and disinfect everything. You can also use a lot of "elbow grease" at least once a week and things will sparkle.
Maybe your toilet and shower are sick with serratia. I suggest cleaning them.
I don't think it means that you have the disease but it does mean that you are being exposed to it every time you use the facilities. Please use a bleach mixture to clean and disinfect all the surfaces once a week and you won't have to worry about catching the disease.
