Do you know? Cleaning Karastan carpets?
Question:I want to get my Karastan wool carpets cleaned. If they are cleaned by carpet cleaners (hot water method), they said the cotton fringe gets "poofy" . Their word, not mine. They said nylon fringe is okay and doesn't do that. Have you had this experience? Does the poofiness go away after a while? Do it look really weird? How can I tell if it's nylon or cotton?Should I go with a dry cleaners instead? Thanks for your help and ideas.
Answers:
first of all poofy is not a professional term. The only real problem with wool carpets is whether or not they are color fast. The cleaner should perform this test before cleaning it is very simple and takes seconds.
as for telling if it is nylon or cotton, it is probably wool. if the tag say 100% wool, it is. If you want to find out you can do a burn test. (very simple). Cut a small thread off the fringe. Hold it up to a lighter. Burn the fibre. If it melts and smells like burning plastic it is nylon. Nylon will also leave a hard bubble on the end of the fibre. If it is cotton it will burn up completely.
