Does Lysol really kill fleas?
Question:I've been having a crazy flea problem with my 4 cats lately. I've been bathing them in flea shampoo, ive been thoroughly cleaning the whole apt. and I've given the kitties flea drops.
I've heard lysol kills fleas, eggs, and larvae so I've been spraying everything in the apt. with it.
I just want to know if I'm wasting my time or if its really going to help me get rid of the fleas.
Answers:
It's not the spray kind in a can that you need to use, but the liquid that comes in the brown bottle. Water it down and spray it, and you can even bathe the dogs in it. It will NOT kill the eggs and larvae, though. It will only kill the live fleas.
I have been told by a pest control company that nothing actually will kill the eggs and larvae, but what they spray turns into a fine crystal and the larvae are essentially cut up when they move around within the hardened crystals and die because of that. The eggs in the area will hatch, but will then be killed that was as well. Not sure how true that is, and they may have different things now. This was probably 20 years ago.
i dont think lysol kills fleas, but it does kill bacteria
You can go to the pet store, or your local hardware store. They sell a powder, or liquid formula that you use on your carpet and furniture. Lysol may work, but it is really only a disinfectant.
I don't know if Lysol kills fleas but I know from personal experience that I had to use a Flea Killer spray several times before I got a flea infestation under control from my cat. Good luck I know how frustrating this problem can be.
Not the kind you use on your animals, one for pests that you can buy where spider and ant sprays are located in your store.
It will not really help you get rid of the fleas. It is a multi-step task you have to contend with, for the fleas come from outside into the house on your shoes, socks, the cats, etc. I have an indoor cat and he's been driven crazy by fleas. My apartment has been sprayed twice, the cat has been bathed in flea shampoo numerous times, still, every time one of us goes outside, the fleas come right back in. Fleas have a 2-week life cycle, so if you spray or use something I found at Wal-Mart called Enforcer, you need to do it every two weeks. Enforcer is a powder we sprinkled all over the carpeting, let it sit for several hours then started vacuuming. We vacuum every day without fail, and are starting to get a grip on the flea problem. Please be careful giving the cats "flea drops" because those contain pyrethin and can be deadly to cats in large doses. I use Sergeant's Flea & Tick Shampoo, and it works better than anything else to relieve the cat's misery.
Good luck. Persistance is the key here. You can't stop, or the pests will take over your entire household!
