Cleaning my coffee pot?

Question:My husband put my coffee carafe in the dhiswacher, the handle and the lid are both white. I guess there was a tomato based sauce in it as well. When it came out, the handle and lid both have a reddish color on them now. can i get this off? I thought about soaking it in bleach, but would an dishwashing soap with a bleach alternative work?

Answers:
VINEGER IS THE BEST

before I did anything drastic, I would make a baking soda/cold water paste and try scrubbing it with that
i would try vinegar
The best thing to try is a white vinegar. This is a natural way to work that stain out. Make up a sink full of HOT water...as hot as you can stand it to be and still touch it! Then add 4 oz of the white vinegar. Let the carafe soak in the mixture for about 10 minutes (fully submersed of course). If the stain is removeable. A light scrubbing with a dishtowel after the 10 minutes should take it right off. Good Luck!
Since it has undergone the dishwasher's heating cycle, you may be cooked (pun halfway intended).

Try the bleach 1:2 water and soak. Also try soaking with a couple of denture tables in the cleaning liquid...I'd use a glass bowl for the container. Leave over night. And of course we should try the OxyClean as a paste. Good luck.
Pour an ammonia cleaner on a cloth & see if that takes the stain off. If not, dry using a paste of Comet & warm water. That same thing happened to me & with numerous more dishwasher washes, the stains came out.
I would try both the vinegar and baking soda together on the handle and lid. The only other thing that might work is hydrogen peroxide my husband is a nurse and uses it on his scrubs to get blood stain out I would think it could get the reddish out of the handle and lid.
believe it or not, you can put the coffee pot back in the dishwasher, along with any tomato stained item, instead of using dish soap this time add a cup of TANG, yes Tang... add a full cup of it to the wash, it will remove the stains, and also brighten your dishwasher inside. old apartment cleaning trick i learned.
I use one of those orange spray cleaners that I found in the dollar store! It seems to be very good at removing tomato stains from my tupperware, so maybe it would work on your coffeemaker. I think the person who said it might be "cooked" is right, though, as once the heat hits it, it tends to be permanent. Good luck!
Use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. That stuff really works well..I use it on the white fridge, microwave, stove and dishwasher. It reallys gets the stains out.
