How to clean chewing gum trodden into carpet?
Question:Don't hold out too much hope, but I've got two black smudges from gum trodden into light coloured carpet some weeks ago, any ideas welcome. Thanks in advance.
Answers:
orange peel oil will lift it out
Try ice-cubes.
ive heard that if you freeze it with chewing gum, it picks out easily
try freezing it with gas lighter fuel then try and lift with a palette knife or paint scraper ice cubes wont do the job i dont think
if all else fails you could splice a new piece in by carefully cutting it out and cut out another piece slightly fluffing the ends and using copydex or simaler glue
I've read somewhere that if you freeze it with ice cubes you can chip it off. Also, if the pile is deep enough you may be able to cut off a sliver with the gum attached. Good luck!
ice cubes or you can buy chewing gum remover try the supermarkets
Defo use ice cubes, but wrap them in a tea-towel first and leave on untill the chewing gum has set then remove with a knife
I think ice cubes work pretty well, otherwise u might have to call a carpet cleaning company!
Yes, Freezing.
You can get a sutiable aerosol freezing spray from electronics suppliers (in the UK Maplin do mail order and have shops in many towns) this is normally used for diagnosis of thermal faults but is also a good way of getting the chewing gum down to a sub zero tempreature where it becomes hard and brittle and can be broken off.
As most people have already said, use icecubes wrapped in cloth. Hold them against the gum until it has hardened, then you should be able to remove it easily. Good luck
Ice cubes are okay, but you used to be able to get a can of freon spray that will freeze it better. Not sure if they are still available.
Freeze them using ice cubes then use tweezers to pick out frozen gum.
Work baby oil into the gum. Scrape it up with a old plastic comb. After the gum is gone, clean up the oil with dishsoap and water. Scub with a brush, and blot up.
freeze it and scrape it off
