Some (or all) of my 3 sons frequently miss the toilet - yuk?

Question:I have a very small half bath - literally 4 foot square with a door that opens in. Tiny!! Also it is in the center of my home with no window. One or more of my three boys misses the toilet in this bathroom and it smells in there. I have to scrub the walls and floors often to get rid of the smell. Of course they all deny making the mess and they are too old to watch them use the facilities. So I am not sure who is the culprit. Any advice first on getting this behavior to stop? Or any advice on good air freshners to keep in this tiny space?

Answers:
My 13 year old son is guilty of missing the toilet on many occasions... so quess what one of his household chores is now? He is responsible for keeping the bathroom clean and I mean clean... I have before had him clean the bathroom 4 times in one day because of his "MISShaps".

Make them take turns cleaning the bathroom and they will try harder to keep from missing the toilet... It's worked here =)

Time to make them squat. Lay down the law and if they still miss have them clean the mess up.
Well if they keep missing, make them scrub it down. Maybe they will aim better if they have to do the work.
Also try bleach and maybe fan air freshners.
Get those boys in line!! :-)
I have 3 grown sons and a husband and they never, I mean never, grow out of missing the toilet or taking responsibility for it. Accept the fact that the pee gremlins did it and move on. In my bathroom,(for the odor) I use a small dish of dried potpourri and get one of those jar air freshners for smokers. They come in nice scents and they absorb the odor. They last a few months, too.
Never, ever will they hit the mark. Did you ever ask their father? Men do it all the time. Reminder, again, it is never going to stop. And it is probably Dad.
one of your boys has a problem with control. They don't seem to know how to control their urination. He is probably ashamed. So for now I would make them all clean up the mess. Tell them that's there's nothing wrong with missing sometimes. encourage them to talk to you. Then maybe he will come around and admit.
Males have that problem. The stream is not as direct-able as women sometimes think especially at the start and end of the endeavor.

However, that does not clean up the mess. My house rules were always simple. If you are the major mess maker than you are the mess cleaner.

The ability to produce a sparkling clean bathroom is good preparation for many things in life. Learning to do boring, unpleasant tasks well is very important for everyone

Let me also add that females are not always completely faultless in the bathroom department. Many times if a lady is not careful the underside of the front of the lid will be wet. This is not pleasant for the next male lid lifter who comes along. So everyone can make improvements. (Grin)
well you got alot of good answers.. they don't get any better as they grow older. make them sit to go.. and also make them clean it.. give them a bucket of bleach in water and have them scrub the walls and floor and around the bottom of the toliet.. when they get tired of cleaning it they will learn to aim better but mean while you will have the bathroom cleaned for you.. and don't leave there father out on the cleaning chore.. he is just as bad.. my husband does the same thing.. and it is to hard to lift the lid you know so you will always end up sitting in the wet spots.. as for the smell. when you smell it make them clean it.. and never ever put carpet in your bathroom . it is horrible.. and will be like a cats litter box.
make it the mens room to clean.. hope this works.. schedule each of them a day to clean the bathroom before they go to school weather it smells or not.. they will learn or will become better atleast. good luck
odo-ban. works great i have three kids and a husband a dog a cat and two ferrets i buy odo-ban from sams club in bulk! believe me it gets rid of ALL smells and germs! also keep clorox wipes next to the toliet and ask all to wipe up after their done.
I have 2 boys (11& 13) and 3 dogs, I use a product called Eliminator Odor Digestor. I spray my bathroom1 to 2 times a week, toilet, tile, wall and baseboards. I usually leave it for 10 minutes and then send the boys to clean it up. I swear by this product, we use it daily for our dogs, I have tile and a new puppy, our wee wee pads leak and sometimes she goes on the edge(we are working on that). My vet sells it, but you can also get it at gotpee.net Good luck:)
If they are too old to watch, they are not too young to clean it up!! I would put it on a rotation basis. If each of them has to wipe up pee every 3rd day, I bet they resolve it themseles, and the culprit comes clean!!!
make up a chart, so that every day one of them is cleaning up the bathroom, make each and every one of them do the whole scrub thing...floor up. Once they realize how gross it is, the behavior may modify.
