Mildew in my carpet?
Question:Two days ago we had one of the water pipes bust in my son's room and now it stinks from the mildew. We got up a lot of the water but its just now getting really dry. But now the mildew smell is really bad I won't even put my son in the room anymore. how can I get the smell out??
Answers:
rent a steam vac. Add a quarter cup of bleach to the shampoo mixture, and clean it with that. Take your time and cover the whole room. It will also help get up the residual water from the pipe leak.
I have 3 children and have lost count of how many floods and mildewy carpets I have cleaned. The bleach have never ruined the carpet, but if you are concerned, do a test spot in the closet. Though I think I'd rather a faded carpet than a mildewed one.
If you have a dehumidifier , this will help dry the carpet, then I would suggest you steam clean the carpet. This might help
I would contact a professional carpet cleaner , but once mold is set in you might as well rip the carpet out since mold is a problem for the breathing , the mold is probably in the under pad as well . Think about your health!
