Our house smells really musty. How can I get it to smell fresher? any Ideas?

Do you have carpets or wood floors? Maybe you should vaccuum with one of those powders?
You need to find the cause and get rid of it. Musty is a sign of mold, Mold is not good.
In the mean time, fresh air, good ventilation is the best methid.
You have to eliminate the source. Does the place have moisture problems or are things like carpets and furniture getting old and nasty due to age, moisture issues or pets? Once you eliminate the source, the odor will go away.

First try to find out WHY the house smells musty. That smell is usually caused by water, ie, mold, mildew, etc. Look to see where the smell is the worst, then try to find out if you have a busted pipe or a leak somewhere. This is a must. Then after what-ever it is is fixed, you can rent a carpet cleaner is the water got into your carpets, open windows to get fresh air in. Febreeze works. Finding the source of the problem is key though.
Ive had my house evaluated recently because of a pending mold problem. Well thats all gone now but i was told that a musty smell requires a dehumidifier as it is dampness that causes this smell to occur. There are alot of different deoderizer sprays on the market now to help the smell in the meantime, but i must advise you tocheck on the use of a dehumidifier. It completely stopped the mold smell for my problem. bettyk
My b/f had this problem, he had a leak in the plumbing under the house which was causing mildew and mold to form under the house and it was making the house really stink. He went to home depot after getting the plumbing fixed and bought some devices to control and absorb mildew. It didn't fix the problem over night but eventually it did. You might try lysol aersol and spray the carpets and fabrics or maybe febreeze for fabrics and febreeze for the air too. Good Luck

Before vacuuming, sprinkle Arm & Hammer carpet fresh over carpet.
