vingear is the best and let it sit overnight and then take a light scrubbing pad and check the holes to in the iron to make sure all the gunk is gone
Try white vinegar. You may have to let the vinegar sit for a few days to try to work through the build up. Good Luck...
The answer already given is the one that I was going to give - vinegar.
Also great to clean out coffee pots as well.
I agree with the others & also make sure you don't leave water in your iron once you're done ironing each time.
PHOSFORIC ACID, ACTIVE INGREDIENT IN LIME AWAY
be carefull and causious, and take a dish scrubber made of that stringey metal and wipe the irons underside, before it gets too hot.
drain iron and try vinegar then rinse with water .
to help cut down on this type of maintenance in the future
use Distilled water in your iron , not tap water .
I will say vinegar but if you iron it's too bad better to buy another one because sometimes it will stain you clothes.
And I also suggest to always use distilled watter on the iron that won't build in minerals inside of the iron cause to clog it.
Clean it with white vinegar, heat it up press the steam button
until water comes out of all the holes.
wipe it down with vinagear and let it get hot and wipe again while it is cooling off.
