How do you stay motivated while cleaning the house??
Question:Any suggestions would be appreciated! :-)
Answers:
I try to focus on why I'm cleaning to begin with. When my house is cleaned and organized, my life is so much easier! I feel more relaxed and I don't cringe when someone knocks at the door! It's called CHAOS, Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome! I also love to have pretty things in my house. How can my things stand out and look nice, if clutter is everywhere or the kitchen is a disaster.
Some suggestions I have to check out The Fly Lady's website. Her simple suggestion of keeping your sink clean, getting dressed as soon as you wake up, and wearing shoes (even if it's a special pair for inside) can make a huge difference in your daily routine and your motivation. It's TRUE! Put some makeup on (even an old barn looks better with a new coat of paint!), brush/fix your hair and spend a few minutes pampering yourself!
Another thing I do is this: I have several small laundry baskets. Each child has their own basket. As I find things throughout my day, I put the item in their own basket. This is for them to put away. That is a huge amount of time saved that I can spend on other things, all the while, making my home look less cluttered.
I also have one basket just for me. It's a larger basket that I put things in as I find them out of place. During the day, when I walk by the basket, I pick a few things out and put them away. I have also found that some of those things just need to be thrown out!
I have also made, daily, weekly, and month chore cards. There are certain things that have to be done everyday (laundry, dishes, quick and light dusting, beds made, etc). Some things only weekly (cleaning refrigerator, bathrooms, etc). And then there are the monthly things like vacuuming under the sofa cushions, deep dusting, etc. By making these cards, I can keep my house running so much easier and it stays so much cleaner with MINIMAL effort.
I sort mail as soon as it comes in. I have a 3-ring binder that has a section for each bill (i.e. electric bill, phone, cable, etc). At a glance I can easily find any bill or other important mail. I keep a hole punch and binder side-by-side and put mail away as soon as I get it. I also have online auto bill pay. Somethings are automatically paid like the cable bill, others require just a moment to pay like the electric bill.
There's also Fly Lady's 27 Fling Boogie! Once a day, go through your house and find 27 things that are worthless to you and will never be used again and THROW THEM OUT! This clutter does nothing but lessen your motivation to clean be cause it can feel overwhelming to clean around these things or to not know what to do with them.
Another thing to do is to make a little photo album of what your house looks like when it's at it's cleanest! It's so nice to have a reminder of what you can do as a source of motivation.
So, turn up the music! Enjoy!
Turn on your favorite music and turn up the volume!! Helps me.
i jump back and forth so i don't get bored, start the dishes, pick up a little in the other room, little more dishes, vacum a room, seems to help alot for me not to be stuck in the same room a long time.
I never could. So I became a partner in a business, the business became profitable in a very short time, and I hired a cleaner. The cleaner stays motivated and does a far better job than I ever could.
Along with my fav music- I make a list. Even the smallest chore like making the bed. It give me satisfaction to be able to cross off things and at the end of the day when you don't feel like you've done anything and you can tell by the list that you have! I make my lists daily. Works for me!
