How do I get a sour/moldy smell out of my refridgerator/freezer?
Question:I have tried baking soda and washing it out; still smells
Answers:
NEEDS TO BE EMPTIED COMPLETELY AND TOOK TO A CAR WASH AND WASHED OUT AND WIPED DOWN AND AIRED OUT FOR A FEW DAYS, THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO STOP SMELLING
i've heard that putting crushed newspaper inside helps. So does pieces of charcoal or lemon. hope this helps!
Wipe it down with bleach/water solution.
Use some bleach
SPRAY WITH BLEACH AND THEN PUT NEWSPAPER IN IT, FOR A COUPLE OF HOUR AND THE WIPE WITH CLEAR WATER.
After Katrina, everyone said that a fridge that had spoiled food needed sent to the scrap heap. I have a vacation lake house that I was not able to get to for about 2 weeks after the storm due to fuel supply in the area and downed trees.
Later I chose to clean with mean green and then Clorox. Finally placed an apple sliced in half along with an open dish full of arm and hammer. It took several months for all the odor to leave but it worked and now I still use the fridge and no odor.
The sliced apple works great in cars. Slice it and place under each seat. The apple gives a nice odor and absorbs the bad.
The make commercial odor controls that are used in waste water treatment plants on floors etc. Samples maybe can be obtained from water operators in your community if it's not too big.
If all else fails, try wiping it down with vinegar.
I can suggest this. Milton, or any other type of Sterilizing solution used to sterilize new born baby´s bottles. It cleans and sterilizes at the same time
Clean your fridge...make sure you have sanitized everything and leave baking soda in it.
better idea - I found the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT carbon odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. It works so much better than baking soda and all those fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Just put a couple of these in your fridge and freezer. . I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying
Re wash your freezer with hot soapy water, then leave a dish with vinegar over night.
I also leave a piece of coal in the fridge in the lower drawer, it seems to pull the smell out nicely.
good luck.
yes, definitely go with the Fridge It odor absorber. I use it and it is fantastic.
