I have a couple of tips.

Keep a magazine bin in your room for all magazines and catalogs.

Keep a spiral in your room where you jot down all of your To Do's and other notes, so you don't have notes all over the place. One spiral means you always know where to look for those things you want to remember.

Try to make your bed each morning, Use a simple quilt and throw it over the bed.

Go thru your clothing each season and donate or rummage what you are not wearing - it will give you a lot more closet space.

Dump trash bins weekly and each night before bed, at least throw cans, bags in the garbage can. Don't leave glasses sitting all over the room, get the dishes into the kitchen.

Vacuum and sheets - once a week is fine.

Keep a little bin for clutter and once a week, go thru that bin and put everything away. Have a jewelry organizer and makeup organizer for that stuff. Have a place for just nail stuff and hair stuff. Categories make life easier.

Really, there is no need to keep a lot of clutter on surfaces, bc it's annoying to look at and can create anxiety. Think of a spa - they always have almost no clutter.

A green plant or two is always calming.

You could get a tabletop mister fountain, which are a nice touch to relax you. :)

There are also flameless candles now, QVC has them and some discount stores. They are pretty and SAFE.

Enjoy your new sanctuary.

the easiest way is tidy as you go then it's not so big a job. Think about it this way ...
Option1 - step 1 drop things on the floor, step 2 pick up and hang in wardrobe
Option2 -. step 1 hang in wardrobe

option 2 takes less time.
My grandmother used to say "A place for everything and everything in its place". Get organized.

If you have a lot of clothes and shoes, sort them into 3 piles, keeping in mind that if you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it.

Pile 1 - Keep - all items you wear regularly
Pile 2 - Throw Away (or keep for rags)
Pile 3 - Donate - anything that still has some wear

Eliminate the paperwork. Go through all your papers, notes, etc. Toss the junk and separate the rest into labeled boxes.

Clean and organize your drawers. Fold your clothes and put all like items together (one drawer for bras & undies, one drawer for tshirts, etc).

Organize your closet by totally emptying it. Hang like clothes together (all jeans, etc). Put shoes together as pairs and line neatly in bottom of closet. Use shelving for storage, preferably in labeled boxes.

Get underbed storage boxes to make use of the space. It's a great place to store sweaters and winter wear.

Most 12 year olds have sentimental items, like stuffed animals. They are dust collectors. Pick out 2 or 3 favorites, and either store or donate the rest.

Put shelves on your walls or use a bookcase for your books, nick nacks and such.

Have a designated place to put your dirty clothes (but not in your closet).

Change your sheets, vacuum and dust once a week. It will only take 20 minutes. Empty your laundry basket several times a week.

When you're done sorting and cleaning, pat yourself on the back, take a good look around, and enjoy it! Then have a garage sale, and what doesn't sell, donate.
Invite your friends over once. If they see what a slob you are then maybe that will encourage you. Change your sheets once a week, vacuum at least once a week, unless you're in there a lot, take your laundry to the main hamper 2-3 times a week. Store away all your winter clothes. Don't need them for right now. Keep your sweaters handy though. Just lock yourself in there one afternoon. Make a pile of stuff to give away, a pile to throw away, and a pile to store away. Then think of a reward for yourself for a job well done. Happy cleaning.
you need to throw away as much as possible
and then spend 5 minutes a couple times a day tidiing
well not saying that it's ok to do this but you are a 12 year old girl, what 12 year old girl keeps her room clean? I know your parents are after you to clean it I had to stay on my daughters back all the time to clean her room. First pick up all your clothes and put then in there place then make your bed, put all your stuff where it belongs and dust it. Run the vacuum and you'll be done.
welcome to growing up kidlet.,just weed out what you need for the week and put the rest away.
get some cardboard boxes. Everyday spend 30 minutes trying to fill a box with things you no longer need, no longer wear, no longer want. After about 2 weeks put an ad in the paper for a yard sale. you would be amazed at how much less clutter you have then.
I have the same problem. Put all your books on shelves. Every single one. There shouldn't be a book anywhere but on a shelf. Don't have enough shelves for all the books you bring in? Get more shelves. Rule: it's a book, it's on a shelf.
Have a really large box. It's just for sports equipment including clothes. Immediately throw all your sports equipment in there as soon as you see it in your room. Now you know that if it is related to sports, that's where it is. Dirty, clean, doesn't matter. You can deal with that issue sometime but not now.
Have another really large box. It's for clothing. Throw anything that is clothing around your room in that box. If you have any second thoughts while you are doing that, it means that you think that clothing is nice enough to be hanging up. So hang it up. Too lazy to do that? No problem, put it in the box. Deal with the issue of all the mixed up clothing later.
Have a big hamper. If it's dirty clothing, it goes to the laundry hamper. Have a sack in the hamper (or sacks) on the bottom so that if you do have a yen to do laundry, you just fill the sack and drag it down to the washer and dryer.
Have a big box for paper. Any thing that is paper; sheets, notes, clip boards, etc. - all that paper stuff that builds up. Throw it in there. All mixed up, what a mess but there it is. I stuffed all my son's papers in a box after I saw it everywhere, all over the house. I told him, 'This box is your office...' Notebooks were in there, everything. He has hardly even looked in that box, which goes to show you just how important those papers were. At the end of the year, we'll have a 'force yourself to look at this and put it in the recycling bin' party which won't be very festive but it will get done and then that box will be empty.
Have a big box for small stuff. You know, all those 'made in China' cute things that add up to a huge clump of plastic pieces of stuff that lie all over the room and get stuffed in drawers and you think you actually can remember what drawer they are in? If it's a little knick-knacky clippy or novelty thing, it goes in there, you got it, it's small so you know where it is. If you haven't pulled it out in say, 2 years, you might as well admit that you can donate it to some charity drive that collects stuff for some organization (in my area, there are several organizations that will come and pick up whatever you want to donate, at an agreed-upon time.)
So what goes in all those drawers and cabinets you have? Some boxes of grooming stuff maybe since you probably have a chance of using those. Clean clothes that you like and plan to wear. Small appliances like a curling iron, etc., that you know for sure you use a lot. A couple address books with phone numbers and addresses you might use. Video games, in clear plastic cases (separate drawer for those), computer equipment and paper (separate drawer for those), exactly the tools you need to do your homework (separate drawer for those), jewelry that you know you like and will wear in one box, jewelry that you thought you might like to wear and may someday in another box.
Boxes are for simplifying. Keep really big boxes there, filled with your stuff but know that it's just stuff. Then what you really use is only in a few drawers or boxes in drawers. Ten boxes in ten drawers or a combination of drawers and boxes that number ten at the most!
When you come in the room and when you 'straighten' the room up, just toss, toss, toss, in boxes. When you have homework to do or want to play a computer game or video game, it should only come from one place. What is it that you use the most? Really only a few things. The big boxes are just catchalls and they keep the floor clear. They also relegate the useless stuff to a place that says 'Useless' - a big box.
tator...you suffer the same thing as most kids go through. Your problem is : you have too many things to keep you occupied, and not enough time to focus on what is real important to everyone. Try this:
1. make a date with mom or family to help you get organized
2. gather up all of the things and place them into piles. Label the containers,Keep, Trash, Donate.
3. Rule of thumb is...if you have not worn it in a year...it Goes!
4. You are growing up, so replace the lil girl things with bright colored containers that help get you organized.
5. If you have thin enough drawers or plastic containers, use them for under the bed storage for things you don't need all of the time like out of season clothes or shoes.
6. Find a clear shoe holder to use on the back of the door to help keep combs, makeup, jewelry, lotions, anything you can think of in there.
7. Rule of thumb is you need to have a schedule to work minor tasks in to your busy day. Set aside that time for the important things that will matter when you fly the coop and get one of your own.
8. Your room is a priviledge to have, keep it a priviledge and let mom know she can trust your ability to take care of yourself when you leave home. Lead by example honey!
