Is there a good way to wash shear curtains?
Question:I have these shear, panel curtains, and they desperately need washing (I've never washed them before). They're not the thick type of curtains. They're see-through and very light-weight - basically the curtains you put underneath the REAL curtains. They're color is like an ivory or cream.
Is there a way to wash them? If so, what temperature, and do you use bleach? Also, how do you dry them? Thanks!
Answers:
I've had shears for years and had varying luck with washing them. The last few sets I've bought have been a little better quality and they washed (gentle cycle) and dried (low) very well, but I've had some in the past that didn't do so well. I think it's probably better to wash them by hand and hang them to dry, but no more than they cost, I've always just thrown them in the washer and dryer.
Dryclean or:
The rod end; is it pleated & hung with hooks? The pleated & between the pleated has something stiff inside - - depending on what is inside the pleat area - - You may need to hand wash in bathtub, tumble SHORT (maybe 2 minutes) time in dryer on low temp setting (gets some of wrinkles out) & drip dry. or after drip dry, use extremely cool iron setting. Warm water with laundry soap is fine if rinsed well, too. No bleach.
If it is just a sheer panel on a rod without pleats, I toss in machine on delicate cycle and cool dryer - - do NOT over dry or have at high dryer heat. Remove & quickly lay out one on top of other so don't wrinkle.
Best way is to put them on a gentle cycle with warm or cold water in the washing machine, and take them out when they are finished and hang them while they are still damp, the wrinkles will come out by themselves.
I wash my on the gentle cycle and then hang them back on the rods wet so they dont shrink
By hand with woolite cold water
I use oxi clean or a similar product and wash them out by hand in the bathtub myself!
