I need good organizing tips for a very messy room?
Question:Step by Step instructions and tips would be great!!
Answers:
first.... take out all of the clothes.
create a file system
organize some of the similar stuff together.
most important rule... everything Needs a Home. Where do clean clothes go? clothes that you want to wear again? papers? cds? everything needs to have a spot. If you can't come up with a spot.that means it cant stay in your room.
Clear a space to work. Then, one pile at a time. One touch rule: Keep, give away, or trash. When you have the entire pile gone through, put away the keep items. If you need to, empty the trash, and bag or box the give away. Take a 5 minute break and get away from the room, stretch a little, drink some coffee or tea or whatever. Then, go back and start on another pile, same idea. Keep this up until the room is no longer messy. THEN take the give away to where ever you are going to take them, that way you don't change your mind and keep items you really don't need. If you run out of time, try to finish the current pile and empty trash and put away keeps and get rid of the give aways. When you have 1/2 hour, go in there and keep at it until its done. Then, to keep it from gettting messy, go to that room 15 minutes before you go to bed and put things away and throw away the trash. That will keep the room neat and organized! If you need, buy some storage containers to hold the items you don't have a place to put out of sight. Happy Cleaning!
My grandmother used to say "A place for everything and everything in its place". Get organized.
If you have a lot of clothes and shoes, sort them into 3 piles, keeping in mind that if you haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it.
Pile 1 - Keep - all items you wear regularly
Pile 2 - Throw Away (or keep for rags)
Pile 3 - Donate - anything that still has some wear
Eliminate the paperwork. Go through all your papers, notes, etc. Toss the junk and separate the rest into labeled boxes.
Clean and organize your drawers. Fold your clothes and put all like items together (one drawer for bras & undies, one drawer for tshirts, etc).
Organize your closet by totally emptying it. Hang like clothes together (all jeans, etc). Put shoes together as pairs and line neatly in bottom of closet. Use shelving for storage, preferably in labeled boxes.
Get underbed storage boxes to make use of the space. It's a great place to store sweaters and winter wear.
Most kids have sentimental items, like stuffed animals. They are dust collectors. Pick out 2 or 3 favorites, and either store or donate the rest.
Put shelves on your walls or use a bookcase for your books, nick nacks and such.
Have a designated place to put your dirty clothes (but not in your closet).
Change your sheets, vacuum and dust once a week. It will only take 20 minutes. Empty your laundry basket several times a week.
When you're done sorting and cleaning, pat yourself on the back, take a good look around, and enjoy it! Then have a garage sale, and what doesn't sell, donate.
