Harmonica in dishwasher?
Question:It's quite old, and I have no idea where it's been. I'd like to clean it very well.

NO !!! The reeds that give the harminica its individual sounds are VERY fragile...they fit exactly and waterlogging will RUIN them by making them swell up,then when they dry they won't fit tight anymore.You can gently wash the outside ONLY with a damp cloth,or a cloth with mineral oil (very small amount) The only acceptable way to clean the inside is a can of compressed air (like they use for electronics).
Maybe, call a music store and see what they suggest. I think a dishwasher would sterilize it, but might wreck or rust it.

Definitely not. The reeds, wood parts and even metal parts will suffer in the dishwasher. I would simply clean it by running faucet water through it, drying with paper towel and letting it air dry overnight, then blow drying it until it feels hot to your fingers. There should be not pathogenic organisms present if it hasn't been used in a long time but this mild antiseptic treatment should get it clean enough.
No. Clean the mouth piece with peroxide and blow the dust out of it.
I would get a steamer, with the small nozzels you should be able to get all the dirts,and be sanitize also. The steamer is you best choice, and no chemicals,or soaps taste.
I'd just take a pair of tomgs and dip it boiling water for a couple seconds...

id would guess it would rust, look for a music shop in the phone book and ask them the best way, don't tell them about your dishwasher idea at first, you don't want them to laugh down the phone at you now do you?
