How do I remove dark stains on my white linoleum caused by something sitting on it for long periods of time?

Question:I am moving into a new house with white linoleum floors in the kitchen and bathrooms. In the bathroom, the previous owners left a toilet bowl brush holder on the floor of the bathroom; and when I removed it, there was a huge black/purple stain where it was sitting. I have tried to remove it with no luck.

Also, how can I prevent these kinds of stains from occuring?

Answers:
Try a cloth soaked in hydrogen Peroxide. Keep checking it. To keep this from happening, you need to continually clean the bathroom. I suggest one of those fuzzy carpets to place the holder on. Also, make sure there is not a leak in the bathroom. Run the vent fan to help keep the humidity down. Newspaper will only give you as ink stain.

Have you tried straight bleach? Or oxygen cleaner ( available generic or the name brand straight from the commercial)? Bleach won't hurt white flooring. Or make a paste from the oxygen cleaner, and scrub with that.
Prevent it? Doesn't sound like a black/purple stain was made from the brush, could they have been covering another stain? But keep the area dry, or fold a piece of newspaper and put under the brush and holder.
You could see if the landlord has a replacement tile. You would just heat up the tile that has the spot on it with a blow dryer or iron over a towel and peel up the tile while warm. Then replace with a new tile.
Replace the tile, it's in a place small color difference won't matter.
creme of tartar mixture (not the fish dressing) sometimes is a good remover.
Did you try C.L.R.?
Will a carefully applied bleach do it?
What about a masked off spray of oven cleaner?
Those are my best, you need to know what caused it exactly to remedy it.
Get a different style of bowl brush that wiil keep the cleaner from contact with the floor.
I really think the first suggestion is best.
