Is it true to iron them while still damp?

Answers:
Damp is good, and so is steam. Use your ironing board to set each section as flat as possible. The buttons take care. Filtered water if possible.

Clean your iron, you shouldn't be getting stains unless you have temperature up too hot and are scorching. Iron while damp or with high steam.
Yes, iron when damp, particularly if 100% cotton.
The only reason you'd get brown stains is if the iron itself is damaged ie, burnt on material stuck to the iron.
I always iron the collar first, then the sleeves, then the 2 fronts and last of all the shoulders & back.
I don't know if thats the professional order of doing it, but I've ironed more shirts than had cooked dinners, so I must be doing something right!
sounds like your iron might need de-scaling if you are getting brown stains. yes - iron whilst damp..makes the job much easier...better still - let somebody else iron it for you!!
here are ny time tested tips on Ironing a white shirt:

If yo uwash the shirt with bleach, you have agreater chance of staing the shirt, turning it yellow. rinse well, and do not use a little extra bleech than recomended in the load, they'll look white, until you start Ironing.

reduce the hat from high cotton (if a cotton shirt) to the next lower setting.

you can use a spray bottle with water in it to dampen the shirt, then start your Ironing.

Yo can use "sizing" instead of starch, you ;may find your creases are not as crisp, but it does a good job and works well on white shirts, so you don't get starch buildup on the creases.

Get your Mum to do it!
If your getting brown stains, your iron is too hot and you are using too much starch. Clean the sole plate of the iron and use the lowest linen setting that will provide steam. Dampen the shirt with water from a spray bottle and get your seams straight. Apply starch lightly as you finalize the crease. Start with the back side of the collar and inside of the cuffs. Iron the sleeves, lapels and back in that order. Do not use dryer sheets on items you will iron. The residue sticks to the sole plate.
The best way to iron a white shirt is always inside out.

To get rid of the brown stains on your iron. Go to CVS or somplace like that pick up some relaxer (yes the one for black girls), mix it together (the activator and lye), then turn your iron on wait for it to get hot, the take a paper towel or cloth and begin to wipe ( a lot) of the relaxer onto the iron it will take away all of the brown burnt stuff. The relaxer kit shouldn't cost more than 3-8 bucks depending on which one you get and no it doesn't matter which one you get.
definatly iron the shirt whilst its damp, then u dont have to have the iron so hot you think it will burn it
I get my wife to do mine.
