How do i / is it possible to get the "musty basement smell" out of paper products?

Question:i bought an expensive lot of viewmasteer reels (made from cardboard) & paper booklets from e-bay.

when viewmaster reels/booklets arrived at my home they smelled horrible like mold? & buyer refuses to refund. I am stuck, but i really do love these reels because they look great.

i aired the reels out in my garage for about a month & the smell came back in a few days. any other suggestions to draw the musty smell out?

Charcoal or coffee grounds put in a small area with the view masters, should take the smell out of the things after awhile...

(Truckers use the coffee ground trick when they want to "mask" the smell of certain items, so that they can haul other things when they arent supposed to, it works very well in fact!).
