HOT or COLD WATER?
Question:I do laundary after every 2 weeks. I have heard that HOt water fades coloured clothes...some one told me to use hot water only for whites and cold for for colour cloths....is it true? (assuming i use the correct detergent...i buy both Normal tide and tide for cold water)
Answers:
I always use cold water on colored clothes. And hot water with a little bleach on white clothes.
You must be a man! =)
It doesn't only depend on color it also depends on the texture and the type fabric. You should read the lables on your clothes especially anything that is expensive, it tells you exactly how you should wash your clothes.
That person was right. Hot water makes colors bleed and fade. I only wash whites in hot water and everything else in cold. And you can use normal Tide in cold water too. And using the highest heat setting on your dryer can make clothes shrink (in case you didn't know!).
Hot water can fade/discolor the dye in dark clothes.
Hot water is used to remove more dirt and kill germs, and is usually recommended for whites.
I use hot (with bleach) for my whites, warm for my lights, and cold for my darks. A cold water detergent, such as "Tide Coldwater" is recommended for getting clothes clean in cold water, but as long as you are washing your clothes regularly and they don't get filthy, it isn't a necessity, nor worth the price.
Just use cold water for everything. Hot water sets stains, and if you're a guy, it's better to give your clothes as much chance as you can. Cold for everything is the way to go.
COld water tide dry rotted my clothes. It isn't worth the tiny amount of money you save--and there is no reason to purchase two seperate detergents. It is just a gimmic. Hot---for whites with bleach and tide. Cold water use tide---for darks, and jeans etc. I wash my jeans wih other like clothes like sweathshirt that are heavier. If you buy a new outfit, wash it by itself the first time, and if it a nice fabric wash on low setting with woolite.
its true, hot water fades colored clothes while cold water keeps the stains in white clothes.
now a days you can find products for cold water...plus you save a bundle on energy...for whites add vinegar.I haven't used hot water for a couple of years now.Use the tide for cold water...hang to dry outside..the whites get brighter
Yes, cold with colored, hot with whites (if necessary). What you can do to get a lasting DARK colors is use Woolite dark colors detergent or anyone that is especially formulated for DARK colors, such as black, navy, etc... IT DOES work, I've tried it... is expensive, but black jeans will not fade! Another thing you can also do is buy and use the detergent that will keep colors bright... I just can't remember the name, but you'll see it in the shelve...
Hope everything works out great!
PS- I do not use hot water necessarily with whites, trying to be "green."
also, you can follow this advice for dark colors:
Brighten Colors with Salt
Hard water can cause clothes to become dull or dingy after several washings. To solve this problem, add a couple of pinches of ordinary table salt to the washer with the detergent. Let some water run in the washer to dissolve detergent and salt, then add clothes. Colored clothes will come out much brighter.
That works for me, preceded by a stain remover, if necessary.
thats true.
but sometimes i use warm water for whites and use bleach
if you live in a house it costs more money to use hot water cuz of gas
well at least in california
