Professional housecleaning?
Question:Do you charge by the job or by the hour?
How much do you charge?
Is it a good living?
I just cleaned a house today. It took 5 hours, and I charge $15/hr. and use my own cleaning supplies. Is this enough to charge? I am thinking about starting my own cleaning service and want to find out how lucrative it is, from some professionals.
Thanks.

I started a residential cleaning business a year and a half ago, with the intent that it would be part time. I do not advertise, all my customers come to me through referrals or word of mouth. I charge $20/hour, $25/ hour for windows. I use my own supplies, except when the homeowner has their own specialty cleaners. I have 6 regular customers, some are monthly, some are every 3 weeks, and 1 is bi-weekly. Occasionally, I have one time jobs for parties or such. I average 2-3 jobs a week, which brings in $150-250, depending on the jobs. If I advertised, I could be busy every day. I have worked a commercial job, also, but I don't like working the 2nd and 3rd shifts that those jobs require ( I have kids at home). Commercial cleaning is more profitable, but the hours aren't great.
Good luck!
I am not a pro but I think what you charge is reasonable...Good luck !
Sounds like a fair price. In Erie the average is $13 an hour.
That is a good idea to start your own business.Go for it ,and the price you charge is quite reasonable. It can be a lucrative business if done right and I feel you can make it happen.Good luck.
