Here are two links. If you try the acetone I would test it first in an inconspicuous area. When my girl did this we waited for it to dry and then snipped the part with the polish off but this won't work if there is a lot.

Is it dry? if it is, clip the dry part off. Then soak the rest of it with a cotton ball that has acetone. After that, get a stain remover for carpets. Oxy clean is pretty good if you make it strong (more oxy clean than water in the solution).
i dont know i usually put a rug over it
In my experience, using nail varnish remover has only spread the colour. Nail varnish is made partially from acrylic, and once it drys its like a solid plastic, so its hard to shift. Use shaving foam. Really. There is something in it which breaks down the acrylic (so it removes acrylic paint too, this is how I first picked up this tip, being an art student).
Spray a little on and leave it for 5 mins, then gently rub away with a slightly damp cloth. If you've ever used carpet/upholstery cleaning foam then use it like this. Another application might be required, but it works perfectly and will remove it from clothes and general material also :)
nail poish remover - seriously, it may work. if it could get rid of other stains besides nail polish, then, y not try it on the carpet?
