What is the best way to thoroughly clean an entire house?
Question:The fiance and I got a house but it needs a good cleaning. It is in decent repair but in need of a major cleaning. How should we go about this? Do you go room by room, cleaning each one, or do you do all the walls, then all the floors, etc.? Any advice and tips are appreciated. Thanks!

I am assuming that you will be cleaning this before you move any furniture in. This will be a very long process for one person, but a better bet for you if possible might be to hire a cleaning team and explain to them what you want done. If you still want to clean the house thoroughly, here are the steps I use.
Bedrooms- We clean the window sills out, then the windows. We also wipe down all the woodwork in the rooms, and clean the light fixtures. Wipe the shelves in the closets also. ( If your walls are dirty, I would reccomend trying to wipe them down, or maybe even painting.
Bathrooms- The basics...Toilet, tub, sink, mirror, medicine cabinet, and once again, wipe the shelving in there (if applicable)
Kitchen- This will probably take you the longest. We wipe out all of the cabinets, and once again, the light fixtures. If you have a dishwasher, we put in a mixture of vinegar and water and run an empty load. This usually sanitizes and cleans pretty well. Run the self cleaning on your oven if applicable. If you don't have that option, get the Easy-off oven cleaner and spray and let sit for a couple hours, and the stuff should just wipe up, or come up with minor scrubbing. The refridgerator, you should dissassemble completely and wash with either soapy water or the vinegar/water mixture once again.
Of course, sweep and mop or vaccuum all your floors. All of the other rooms you need to do the same things that you would do in a bedroom. Hope this helps.
I had to clean my aunts house for her since she was preggi and she had 5 dogs; everything was out of place covered in fur dust and poo! I started cleaning room too room. It was much easier then doing all walls then all floors. It took me 3days and it was only a 5 room house that was small. Used lots of kill germs wips and sprays :( and steam cleaner
Start at the top and work your way down.
Clean cobwebs and dust from ceilings, walls, ceiling fans, and light fixtures.
Wash the walls, windows, and cabinets (inside and out), baseboards, doors, and door trim. Paint if necessary.
Don't forget to clean the closets.
Clean the bathroom and kitchen (including oven and fridge if needed).
Clean the floors.
Enjoy your new home!
One room at a time. Get a dry swiffer(or something like it) do the ceiling. Then do the walls. Can use a wet one. Then base boards. If your floors allow can use wet mop on base boards. do the floors and walk away. Wet rag for the top of doors may have to use on base boards. It is so easy if nothing is in the room, so you don't have to move anything. If stuff in room just move it so you can get around it. Same way in the kitchen, only wipe out the shelves. Bleach water is best on them.
I agree with all answers. I would take one room at a time and start top to bottom. If there is no furniture in the rooms that would be the time to clean. There are two products that I recommend and I use both in my own home. Simple Green & Oda Ban. Both products are non toxic and made with natural products. Both are good degreasers. The Oda Ban is a disinfectent and deordorizer. Some hospitals use Oda Ban. Also I use Windex too. A great product. WD40 is a good product too to clean. It is a good water repellant and tough on dirt. WD40 has a website you can look for yourself. http://www.wd40.com/. Over 2000 uses for WD40.
