Roll up your sleeves, you're going to be busy. Is the smell only in the kitchen? I bet that smoke traveled outside of the kitchen. Anyway, you're going to have to really sand down the walls, wash them, and then repaint. The smoke actually gets embedded in the walls. Same goes for the ceiling. When this happened to us, we had to rip up all the carpets and pads, wash the wood floorboards, and really do a number on our walls and ceilings. Lots of work, but so worth it. Good luck.
Wash all the walls and cielings and open all the windows and get air circulation through the place for a few days.
You will need to scrub everything with a citrus wash and also clean any soft furnishings as that is where the smell lingers. Or take up cooking curry every day to mask the smoke smell ;-)
Febreze for everywhere, bleach wipes on spots that can handle it, then Lysol everywhere afterward.
my aunt never smokes in her house, unless she has a party the next day she'll but bowls of white vinager around the house and some how it actually works.. so you can also try that
You can use any kind of refresheners with the fragrance of your choice.
There's a product called OdoBan. It kicks the crap out of tough odors. It's not a masking agent, either. It really Kills the odor.
And the smokers still ask why we despise them!
Lot of work ahead of you my dear! Wash the carpets, walls and ceiling with a well perfumed detergent! That is the only way!
You will need to wash the ceilings and walls with a mixture of vinegar and water. it will take the stains out and also deodorize. I have done this and its amazing how much smoke residue there is on the ceilings. You dont realize it until you wash a spot. You can also (after you wash) use febreeze to freshen up the place.
first off, they didn't just smoke in the kitchen. Don't fool yourself. Try cleaning the carpets or get new carpet. Paint the ceiling and walls. Open the windows and let it air out for a few days. Clean the A/C filters. Burn candles.
Wash everything that can be washed and vinegar does work to take the smell out. I would use vinegar and water in a spray bottle to clean the kitchen, remember to wash the floor, the baseboards, kitchen linens, and windows as well. Then use febreeze to give the room a nice smell. I don't allow anyone (even my hubby) to smoke in my house, but if anyone does I clean everything right away and then febreeze. Good Luck!!
You need to scrub all the walls and ceiling down with soap and water. You will probably notice that the walls are all yellow too from the nicotine so washing them is going to be pretty nasty and if you don't get it all you will see streaks and yellow spots from where you missed.
It may be easier just to repaint everything, I'm not sure if this will lock the smell in or not but it's worth a shot. I've tried washing down walls and ceilings and it's not a fun job.
If they left behind any curtains or blinds you'll want to either replace them or wash them. If it's blinds I'd just replace them since they are really hard to scrub down.
Don't forget to wash the stove, refrigerator, and any other appliances that were left behind, front, sides TOP of the fridge, the smoke sticks to EVERYTHING. Also wash the insides and outsides of all the cabinets and replace any cabinet liners.
When ever it is nice out keep the windows and doors open to let as much fresh air in as possible.
You can also try using the febreeze air effects, potpourri, candles, tart burners, plug-ins and other air fresheners to try and over power the smell.
I hope this helps you, you have a lot of hard work ahead of you to get rid of the gross smell of cigarettes.
i have used w-d 40, and a magic sponge, this will for sure get it off.
