How do you clean an old porcelain bath tub? It has some hard water spots and just looks grimy?

Question:So I have used bleach, oxy-clean, and lime away...but it still looks old and grimy. I do not want to put a hole in the stupid thing, but I want it to look like new. Any patches or "paint" that would bring back the clean look?

Answers:
It's probably time to have it reglazed:

Hmm, have you tried Mr CLEAN'S Magic eraser? That sponge is a god send.

As far as the paint or patch... I saw a "Sell this house" once that refinished a tub. It was pretty spendy though.

good luck.
To clean and polish a porcelain tub and remove stains, make a paste of powdered alum (available in drugstores) and water. Rub well, as if using cleanser. For stains, make a paste of powdered alum and lemon juice; apply and let dry, then moisten with more lemon juice and rub well. Rinse thoroughly. Borax and water is also a great cleaner for porcelain. Make a paste and rub well, then rinse.
You may have to get it professionally refinished, or just replace it, for the look you want, but try "CLR" first, it's a good product for hard water stains. You can find it at most hardware, home improvement and many, grocery stores.
If All else fails..major hardware stores..Home Depot..Lowes..Aces on and on sell bathtub refinishing kits all in one box. Major paint stores as well. They are a 2 part epoxy in these kits, so once it is to be painted, you cannot stop at no time. They work well And wear A decent respirator when workin with epoxy, but it is simple.
