What is the best way to wash a baseball cap without shrinking, damaging, discoloring, or bending it?

I always did the top rack of the dishwasher (without the dishes of course!). Still use the dishwasher detergent; if you use regular soap or laundry soap you will have foam all over your kitchen. If you want to keep a curved bill shape, put a rubber band around it or put it in a coffee cup. The rubber band thing works when you throw it in the washer on gentle cycle too. Otherwise they actually sell plastic racks that you put your hat in for the washer.
There little plastic frames that you can buy in the hat store that you just put your hat in so you can put it in the washing machine. or you could hand wash your hats. and My ex just used to take his to the dry cleaners.
Ok now this is going to sound really stupid, but it works ok! Put the hat on in the shower, wash the outside like you do when you wash your hair, WITH SHAMPOO!! then carefully wash the inside of the cap the same way, taking care not to bend the brim. If it's sunny outside, just put it back on your head after you have washed it, and let it dry on your head, that way you will be sure it won't shrink and will fit you just fine!
Shampoo removes all that head grease and the marks from sweat, believe me it's great!
handwash it
you can wash them in the top rack of your dishwasher just make sure you clean out the food trap first. or you can have them dry cleaned if you are worried about colors bleeding.
Dishwasher will change the color of a baseball cap. Most dishwashing detergents contain bleach.
I've always put them in the dishwasher, on the top rack. They have never bleached out. I use Cascade soap and turn off the heat drying.. Works 100% of the time.
hand wash, then use bowl or pan and put hat on, while drying will avoid it from shrinking
