make sure the Seals on the door are clean and can seal properly. You might have to turn off the freezer and clean it with Clorox and turn it on again. Between cleanings use baking soda in the freezer.
a box of baking soda works wonders. It will absorb the smell.

pull everything out and determine what is old and needs to be thrown away and what is still edible. get some hot water and bleach get to scrubbing, after that put a box a up baking soda or get one of those baking soda's stickers for the fridge/freezer from the grocery store, or target`, or wal-mart or wherever you get your household cleaning products
