YOU CAN GET THE CARPET CLEANING SOLUTION AND USE A PUSH BROOM WITH STIFF BRISTLES OR USE A SCRUB BRUSH AND YOUR HANDS BUT THAT WOULD BREAK YOUR BACK TRUST ME!!
Get a steam cleaner
We absolutely love a product made by Turtle Wax It's called oxy interior 1 multi-purpose cleaner and stain remover works on carpet, vinyl, and fabric. and is designed for cars but wow it's great in the house. I use on spots, steps all the time. I buy at Wal Mart and it comes with a cap that has a scrub brush. Spray, wait and scrub. Try it we love it. Works great in the car too.
If you want to skip the shampooer, you're going to have to buy carpet spot treatment at the store and use a sponge or brush to clean your rugs. (this means getting on your hands and knees and scrubbing pretty hard). If it's just the smell, and no stains/discolorations- how about open up a few windows and let it really air/dry out. Then use something like Febreeze on the area. That might be an easy way out. Good luck.
this sounds weird but if you get a bucket of warm clean water and a bucket of warm water n put dishwasher detergent mixed in that and take a hard bristle scrub brush. dip the scrub brush in the detergent water n scrub the affected area. then take a dry towel n rub it semi-dry. i did that b4 i got a shampoo carpet cleaner and you would b amazed at the results. it's hard work but very effective.
You can buy a can or two of carpet shampoo & apply it with a new/unsued sponge mop. (a cheap mop will suffice) Woolite makes a great carpet shampoo, but look around & read labels. Be sure to vacuum the stairs first, then shampoo, then vacuum again when the carpeting is completely dry.

Yes There is an excellent Solution.
Use " Liquid Organic Cleaner with High Suds (LOC)" It gives excellent foam with mild fragrance. Proportion 1:8 i.e1 part LOC in 8 part of water; but if it is in extremely bad condition.increase the ratio. you can have initially 1:5 or 1:3 proportion later. you can reduce to 1:8 for regular cleaning.
Before doing any of this...test a area of the carpet to make sure it does not ruin the color...so many carpets are not colorfast..
This cleans and deodorizes...and gets rid of that damp smell.
Sprinkle baking powder, (you can add a little borax if you want) over the carpet , let set for about two hours, then vacuum. Use shaving cream as a foaming carpet cleaner to get out the spots. Meat tenderizer will also work on certain tough spots. Sprinkle, let set, sponge off with clean water.
That damp smell could be cause from a mildew problem...you might want to look into that. Good Luck
Hi there I am a professional carpet cleaner. Please be careful of carpet shampoo It is very damaging for your carpet. The detergent will leave a stick residue in the carpet and it will attract dirt like a magnet over the course of a few months Your carpets will resoil very quickly I suggest you have them professionally cleaned by Chem-Dry Its well worth spending the few quid.
With regard to the damp smell the enzyme causing the smell needs to be eradicated and shampoo will not do this. I can recommend a product called Milgo or Milgo SR It contains an enzyme killer.
Best of luck
Try vanish carpet cleaner. you spray it on (it's a mousse), leave for about half an hour then vacuum it off
Not that I know of. There's no easy way to do it if you want it done right. Best thing I ever bought was my own steam cleaner. I use it on the carpets, furniture, and car. Go on, go rent one and make this easy on yourself.
yeah get a bucket of hot water and a scrubbing brush put some washing powder in the bucket and that is the cheapest and easyest way 2 clean your carpet i have always used this way and always had best results good luck
