Does taking your shoes off at the entrance of your house really helps to keep your house clean?

Question:I know some cultures do this, but does it really help? Will I have less dust to clean on my furniture if I take my shoes off at the entrance? or will the floor be the only less dirty thing and I will keep having the same amount of dust on my furniture, ceiling fans, etc? I need an effective method of keeping the dust outside of my home! I am not sure that taking my shoes off will make a difference. (and please don't give me stupid answers like "clean more often" or something like that, I clean every week)

Answers:
Taking off your shoes will help keep your floor clean, but it won't help with your dusting chores. I've heard it said that the majority of household dust is caused by the sloughing of human skin. Every little bit helps, though.

It helps keep the floor clean and for those children who don't remove their shoes, they will get dirt on the sofa, chairs, etc.
its always been a rule in my house to take the shoes off at the front door.

It may not be the total answer to a clean clean home obviously, but it couldn't hurt! I guarantee it will make a difference, think of all the dirt that will stay in the entrance and not get tracked through your carpet and stairs.
The cultures you refer to used to have barn yard animals in the front yard. So taking their shoes off certainly kept their house cleaner. It wasn't dust they were concerned with!
yeah, it helps. it keeps dirt off the floor, and you shampoo the carpet less often.
I live out in the country on a dirt road so it helps here. Depends on the outside environment and what you might be bringing in on your shoes.
unless your feet are dirty then it will probally help
:]
Taking your shoes off before entering the house really does make a difference! I am not from a culture that usually does this, but when I moved into my first house, I started doing it to keep the carpet cleaner and it has become a regular habit (15 years later). My kids remove their shoes, and so do a lot of my guests - even though I don't require it of guests. Anyway, you might also want to add a rug at each entrance - it stops a lot of the little debris that would usually make it into the house. Of course this will not stop dust completely, but it cuts it down if there's less dirt coming in from your shoes.
yea i suppose it does keep it somewhat cleaner..at my bf's house u always have to take off ur shoes as soon as u go into the house. i dont mind so much anymore so whatever
Taking your shoes off will surely help with the vaccuming (carpet) or moping/whatever (hardwood). I've done it since I could walk and I've been to my friend's houses where they wear shoes inside, big difference. A lot cleaner. Dust usually comes from dead skin cells that break off. Nasty huh? Dust can also come in from ouside (windows, open doors). Usually the more people you have in a limited space will result in more dust buildup.

Answering your original question, yes, taking off your shoes does help with keeping your house clean.
it really helps a lot , reduces a lot of dirt being tracked thru the house from outside
if it's just dust your worried about keep the windows closed as much as possible and run your central air to clean the air through the filter. Having doors and windows open blows in dust. Shows don't bring in dust. Dust is also dead skin being shed from all the living bodies in your home
I helps tremendously! We replaced our carpet 4 years ago and made the rule that shoes must be left at the door. We still have not had to clean the carpet even though we have a family of five. We have been able to make due with spot cleaning spills and soiled areas.
