I had this same issue for several years - the mess was there, it was overwhelming to see it, and there were so many other fun things to do!

Then, I found FlyLady.

http://www.flylady.net/

So, I began to realize that in 15 minutes, I could do LOTS of things. And if I did one load of laundry from start to finish every day, my laundry got done in a week, and it was easy to keep on top of it after that.

Now, I put in a load of laundry when I get home from work, spend 15 minutes in one room cleaning, then I'm done til I take the laundry out of the washer, put it into the dryer, spend another 15 minutes in another room.

Then, when I take the laundry out of the dryer, fold it, put it away, I spend a final 15 minutes cleaning one last room and I'm done for the day!

This way, I'm only doing 15 minutes worth of work at a time, it's not overwhelming, and I see LOTS of progress in that 15 minutes - it will surprise you!

Best of luck to you!

I wish I could help you, but when those cleaning thoughts come into my head, I lay on the couch and watch TV until the go away.
I always think what if I have a heart attack and die, what will the paramedics think :))
up beat music
make a list and consider it a job
I would rather be home cleaning that at my desk working any day.
Clean Schmean.
You just sit there and eat a cookie, sweetie. There will always be laundry, but the computer could crash tomorrow and then where would you be? Keep surfing babe and let me know when you find the end of the internet.
No you don't! I do and it sucks! Just think about how much nicer your place will look after it is clean.
yhee cleaning sucks,, but well,, if you have to clean the best way is listening music and not think to much

pd: you are beautiful ;D
Just get off your butt and get it done! I have a friend who is the same way but when I go over I make her get up and get to work. If you get it clean and set aside about 15-30 minutes a day to tidy up things it would not pile up!! Get with it !!
i just blast music then start with the dishes. the smoke the start with the clothes. cleaning up the living room and bathroom is easy. just organize and clean.
I always turn on some good upbeat music to clean by. It works every time.
cleanliness is next to godliness...lol saw that in a movie one time...lol, think it was like Graceland or something
I just tell myself "man this place is a wreck, you gotta do it so get after it!"
I keep telling myself I am tired of coming home and looking at this. I crank on good tunes. Keep cold drinks with me and go at it.
Say you've met a really hot woman. She wants to go home with you to your place tonight. You think you are going to get any when she walks into that smelly mess? Think about it.

At first the piles and mess is very overwelminng, but break it up a-bit
I set a timer for like 30 or 45 mins and I see how much I can get done before the timer buzzzzzzzzzz, you'd be surprised how much you can get done!! Do it every day and soon your home will bespotless! Don't forget to crank up some fast tunes (I use Serius Dance hits or 90's and now)

it helps to keep it clean if you get rid of things you don't REALLY need - less to clean around...

I clean because my mom in laws house is very cluttered and I thing "geese she is lazy" and then I went home one day and realized my house lookes like hers and I don't want people th think that of me...

Plus once it is finally clean it is easy to keep it that way.
I will echo what my mother always said when I was a little girl. "A place for everything & everything in its place." Now, having said that, make it a point to put things back where they belong on a daily basis & that will eliminate the daily clutter. Use this rule in every room of your home. I can't stand clutter, it drives me crazy, & in time, maybe you'll feel the same way. Maybe you could get motivated by pretending that company is coming daily & you don't want them to see the clutter. I vacuum & dust when needed but usually make sure my home is nice & clean on Friday, so I only have to pick up on the weekend. It's what my mom taught me when I was much younger. I can't motivate you, only you can do that, but hopefully, my advice has been helpful. :)
Truly, I think:

You have been waiting for this day!

It has arrived. I'm cleaning, streamlining, setting myself up for success in this room, in this place...

When done, I wonder what took me so long to get to that motivation.

Another tactic I have is to clean for "just 5 minutes" or "just during a tv commercial break."

You mention surfing and chatting. Give yoursel;f a break. Get on your feet. Put on some funky music, dance and clean away...

Good luck.
Besides the disgusting disease spreading germs? I put on my absolute favorite music for motivation. It probably seems like it will take longer then it will. You'll feel better mentally, too. One of the best ways to clear your mind is to clean up the clutter at home.
i'm right there with you- actually trying to motivate myself right now (my boyfriend's a slob and i'm trying to get the apartment so clean he's shamed into being neater)...unfortunately it's my day off and ijust feel like laying around.

1) cleaning clothes- i swear. i wear athletic clothes-complete with running shoes. somehow harder to lounge around wearign clothes designed to be exercised in.

2) make a list. or just start in one area and move outward from it...

3)music is key

4) reward yourself. stop and answer a question after an hour.

5) feel how good you'll feel once things are in order (that's what i'm tryign to do...)

good luck
Invite your mother over for dinner. The thought of my mother (or mother-in-law) seeing the mess always inspired me to fits of cleaning. But - if you don't get inspired, maybe mom will clean the place for you. Problem solved.
I clean as soon as I get home from work- since I am still in the mode to keep busy. If you do it everyday there isn't much to keep clean in the long run and only takes about 15 minutes. then you can kick back to watch TV or play on the Computer in a clean house.
