Whats a good way to remove a foul odor in a house?
Question:Im actually posting this for my grandparents without them knowing (dont want to offend them) But their house is pretty knew, not that big but not too small...my uncle was living with them for a good couple years and he had 2 dogs that did their bodily functions on the carpet at my grandparents house while he stayed with them. He since then has moved out and away. But everytime now you go into my grandparents house when you walk in the front door you get a big wiff of the odor from the dog urine etc. I personally have shampooed the carpents several times...that works for maybe a few days and the raunchy odor comes back. I know it cant be healthy and Im trying to find something to do to get rid of the smell. If anyone has ANY ideas PLEASE let me know! Thanks

I would first call a professional carpet cleaning service, or maybe try talking your grandparents into changing from carpet to another kind of flooring. Maybe try housebreaking the dogs. I have 3 dogs and got carpet all through and they are all housebroken. Well, we found this thing at Wal mart that you put in the central air vent on the floor (the main one that sucks the bad air in), it's like a patty that you put with the filter and it exhalates a good fragrance. They have different types, and the smell isn't that strong, it's actually very pleasant. Also a good housekeeping routine is very helpful. I think the dog smells is not just because they do their jobs on the carpet. Dogs naturally smell. And they also shed. It's just a matter of keeping up with the cleaning and tiding up, maybe you can help your grandparents with that, I'm sure they would appreciate your help very much. :-)
My mom had this problem in her house, it was really horrible. She had to replace the carpets. She wound up with tile and area rugs (way more sanitary anyway). The cushioning layers under the carpet get saturated with the urine and feces so it is impossible to eliminate the odor entirely.
good answers all. Try baking soda and/or febreze
I'm sorry to say but replacing the carpets has got to be the only option. You could use the baking soda rinse but it will only work short term like the other methods.
