From the beginning, you need to do a little bit everyday to keep it clean. You know the old saying about...you dirty it-- you wash it. You get it out--you put it away. You open it--you close it. That way a quick straighen up will be easier when someone comes to visit.
if your not looking for a thorough clean, just declutter, go and pick up everything that shouldn't be somewhere, and put it in a big box, or something, and go through it all when you get time.
or if you want thorough, start with the kitchen...the kitchen sink to be more precise.
The answer is organization. You have to try to keep your things well organized. If you do that than cleanup should be simple. Start by organizing your things in a way that you know that you will be able to find them. All you have to do than is put your stuff back in the places that you have already determined where they go. If you do this it should be a breeze.

Do it in sections in this order. Declutter/dust the bed and bath. spray down the bathroom. go make the bed. wipe down bathroom. do floors in bed and bath. WASH HANDS. Declutter/dust living and kitchen area, dishes, floor, then empty all trash. In general work top to bottom, like if you need to dust, then dust first ( celing to floor) and then floors last. Do the house in sections rather than room by room. music makes it seem faster. I do bed and bath first bc its easier but you could do living areas first if you wanted. :)
