How often should the house be cleaned?
Question:How often should the bathrooms be cleaned, sheets be changed, curtains washed, floors mopped, entire house be dusted and carpets shampooed? Please be specific like how many days, weeks, months etc.
Answers:
Bathrooms should be done once a week, at least. More often if someone keeps missing the toilet, or if they are especially messing in the sink. Sheets should be washed once a week, more if it's hot and the sheets are smelly. Wash the floors in both your kitchen and bathroom at least once a week, and the kitchen should be swept at least every other day, especially if you have pets who shed. Dust the house once a week, unless you have children with allergies, then you should do it every couple of days. Shampoo the carpets once a year, more if your hard on the carpets. Do your baseboard, chair rails (if you have them) at least 3-4 times a year. Your light fixtures 1-2 times a year, depending on how much dust your house gets. Wax your kitchen cabinets at least once a year. Wash your windows at least twice a year. Wash your walls down at least once a year, you wouldn't believe how much dust settles on your walls. Go through your closet at least twice a year. Go through the toys every 6 mos, and get rid of the broken or unused toys. Curtains (like in the bath or kitchen) at least twice a year, and the bedroom/living room drapes, once a year.
Now saying all this, enjoy your kids. A beautiful, clean home is great. But I've never heard of a kid whinning because Mom spent too much time with them, and ignored the house for a while. The housework will always be there, but the kids grow up so quickly, don't miss out on their lives. Which do you remember best from your childhood, Mom taking you someplace fun, reading to you, etc., or how much she was cleanning? Save some of your goof off money, and hire some help a few times a year to come in and help with the housework.
every 10-20 minutes
Carpets every 6 months.
bathrooms once a week
curtains once a year (more if you smoke)
floors once a week
dusting 2X a week more if allergic
Everyone is different. I clean bathrooms, mop, dust, change sheets, one day a week. curtains washed and carpets shampooed as they need it or every 3 months. Vacuum every other day.
I think that bathrooms, in the home, should be cleaned once a week. I change sheets every 2 weeks. Curtains are cleaned quarterly, floors are mopped twice a month(unless there is company!). House dusted every 2 weeks and carpets are cleaned every two months( I have a carpet cleaner.). I vacuume once a week.
Everyone is different. Everyone says that I am anul, my husband says that I am not anul enough! I come from a family of 5 kids, he was an only child. We ALL helped out, he did nothing. His Mother did it all. He expects me to be the same.
I am the ONLY one who does housework, I have a full time job. He's lucky my housecleaning schedule is the way it is!

This is the most realistic way to have a pleasant neat home that I've ever heard of and it's all free. You have to have a little faith in yourself and give it a sincere try--I spend less time cleaning, but do the important things that have my house ready for anyone--even my mother-in-law--to visit anytime.
One example of how my housekeeping has changed is that I clean the bathroom EVERY DAY--but do the important stuff that only takes five minutes instead of waging war against the room once a week for much longer. I hope you'll give it a try.
Bathrooms- at least twice a week, touch ups, showers and bathtubs, at least once a week;
sheets changed = no longer than one week, the dirt and skin on the sheets can cause irritation and even infections if you have an open wound; Spring and fall cleaning would include all corner dirt, under the furniture and curtains cleaned.
Carpet cleaning is once a year unless you have pets or small children, then twice a year.
My routine is this.
Kitchen, every day, cabinets wiped out, once a week, refrigerator, once a week .. removing old food and organizing what you have in there before you go shopping. Dishes, every day, or when the dishwasher is full. Never leave a sink full of dishes overnight, that's all it takes for bugs to be attracted.
Floors cleaned (mopped at least every other day) vacuum is once a week, with traffic areas daily if needed.
Counters, once a week, where everything is wiped down, and moved and cleaned inside of appliances.
Wash down the outside of the cabinets at this same time. (most of these broken down take about 5-15 minutes)
Dusting, weekly, should take about 30 minutes, depending on the size of the house, most people do this per room. Living room and dining room once a week, with furniture conditioners and spot cleaning also done.
Bedrooms can be done in an evening ... when you change the sheets... AFTER you've taken the old sheets off.
Cleaning your home is a routine, I have everything down on the calendar, including when to change the air filters, once a month, so that I don't get overwhelmed if company comes, or I get sick and am unable to clean for a few days. or just do minimum things.
PLUS, when you keep your furniture and belongings clean, they last longer and look more comfortable.
1.bathrooms ( sanitized and scrubbed) at least once a week. But it makes it easier if you keep it uncluttered and wiped down every day or every other day.
2. sheets changed once a week ( more often if needed)
3. curtains, depends on if there is smoking in the house or animals. if they look or smell like they need it then wash them.
4. floors mopped once a week minimum. could be much more depending on if there are animals or small kids on the floor.
5. dust, do it once a week so it doesnt pile up
6. carpet shampoo, every 6 mos..
...when "they" get dirty. (or)... stay at the Hyatt, they'll do it for your...
bathrooms- every other day
sheets- once a week
curtains- every two weeks
floors- every other day
entire house should be at least every month
I clean everyday, but things like mopping once or twice a week, vacuuming once a week, curtains and carpet shampooed when I feel they need it. Change the sheets every week at least. More often if there's lots of bedroom action of course. Dusting several times a week and sweeping everyday.
Bathrooms-at least once a week
Change sheets at least once every 7-10 days
Curtains-when they get dusty smelling or about 3-4 times a year
Floors should be cleaned at least once a week
Dust when you clean the floors
Carpets shampooed every 6-12 months
All my recommendations take into consideration that more than one person may reside in your home. If you live alone and don't have people or pets in and out you may be able to get by without cleaning as often, but a quick clean-up on a regular basis is much easier than waiting and having a nasty house to clean.
depends on how big a pig you are (kidding)
Sheets should be changed at least once a week or sooner if soiled! Floors should be moped at least once a month or sooner if dirty. Bathrooms should be cleaned weekly as they harbor the ikkiest of germs. Dusting is a personal thing but usually once a week for the main rooms, and monthly for others less used. Carpet cleaning is a sticky point depending on how dirty it gets. Professionals recommend every three months but there is no way in our house that will happen. Once a year, maybe twice, is our motto. But we use Resolve in areas that need it sooner. I wash my drapes once a year but most are not washable so I put them in the dryer to remove the dust.
Unless you have a maid service and are home full time, no person with kids can adher to a strict "cleaning" schedule. You would spend the majority of your time doing housework, and don't forget the laundry and shopping and cooking, etc., and never have time to enjoy participating in your children's lives.
IF someone is telling you that you are not doing it enough, perhaps that person should step up to the plate and help you do the cleaning. And your children are old enough to help with many household chores like cleaning their rooms, dusting, and using the vacuum.
But if you have an odor in your home and the health department is threatening you, you may have a bigger problem that yahoo can answer.
With the kids, you probably do some sort of cleaning/picking up 24/7!! As for the other answers, OMG, they clean much more than I do! I do clean the bathroom ALOT, since my 6yr old son (and hubby for that matter) don't aim very well! I don't change the sheets on the bed as often as I should, maybe once a month!! (embarrassing!) I don't have curtains yet, only blinds in the apartment. I do mop the floors once a week, and whenever the kids spill. I rarely dust!! And the carpets need cleaned, we've been here several months & was just thinking about doing that! I guess I'm a slob compared to the others, but I seem to keep plenty busy w/ other daily duties & kids!! lol
bathroom everyday------sheets once a week unless there's an accident---------- curtain at least every two weeks---floors should be swept everyday mopped when needed-----dusted at least once a week carpets shampooed no sure.
the only way the amount of children and pets fits into this scenario is that when they spill milk, regurgitate or have skinned their knee, they stuck bubblegum somewhere, the pet is dragging it's butt, etc., well those things need to be taken care of immediately as a larger mess could occur and you'll just be saving yourself time and effort later if you clean that up immediately.
Bathroom, or even parts of it, should be cleaned on a weekly basis. Sheets are changed once a week for children (moreso if there is a couple) or more often if someone soaks the bed. Curtains cleaned once a year, I don't dust or mop as I always "wash" or wipe down everything. I use alcohol on the kitchen and bathroom floors and then wax them if I am havin guests (waxing means slopping on one quick but smooth coat of Johnson's wax with a scott towel). I sleep on the floor and I have a cat that sheds, so every six weeks while I watch tv and only when it's not humid in here, I use a sponge dunked in woolite and water and I (don't soak the rug) move the sponge around in circular motion all over the entire rug to pick up the fur. My vacuum doesn't work so this is the best way for me to get and keep things clean.
bathrooms - couple times a week, once at a minimum
sheets, once a week
curtains - twice a year unless you smoke, if you do - then quit smoking...
floors mopped - once or twice a month, depending on activity.
dusting once a week
carpets shampooed - couple times a year if you can afford it.
all of this is depending on how clean/ messy your family is. generally during the week I cook and open mail and such and the house gets kind of messy. every Saturday i spend about 2 hours cleaning the kitchen, baths, dusting and vacuuming. Then do other things as needed.
you've got kids, you'll be lucky to get it done once before they go off to college. I have a 7 yr. old too. I can clean room A, get in the middle of room B, walk back to room A and its a disaster area again. May the force be with you. Look sad and pathetic, maybe you can appeal to their sympathies and they'll help. Fat chance, but it's worth a shot. :)
