Is it a bad idea to put baby powder on your furniture and then vaccuum it?
Question:I'm asking, because the other day I put some baby powder on the couch and then vaccuum it off with the hose that goes with the vaccum cleaner, and every since then I have been getting bit by some tiny insects. Please help if you can, thank you.
Answers:
Baby powder is not bad for the couch. It did not cause the insects to infest you couch. Try the same trick, but with flea powder to get rid of the bugs.
Baby powder and flea powder are much finer than regular carpet freshening powder, and will clog the filter of you vacuum if you are not careful. Clean you filer right after you vacuum up baby powder, or flea powder
I think it's bad for the vacuum unless you have a special kind of filter and/or bag. I can't advise you on the bugs.
Most baby powder is made from cornstarch; if you had a few insects in your couch before, you just gave them a huge food source and most likely caused a population explosion. I suggest getting something like flea powder and using it on the sofa according to directions. If that doesn't work, then you will probably need to get the sofa steam cleaned to kill the little varmints.
I doubt that baby powder caused the tiny insects- no one would use it on babies! Why did you use the powder in the first place? That is probably your answer to the bugs. You may have to fumigate, but you'll need to figure out what they are first.
Why would you do that?
the vaccuum cleaner shouldn't be harmed, it just like tiny specks of dirt.however, it's a bad idea to use baby powder because it will leave a white residue. Not sure about the bugs, they may be attracted to the smell, not the ingredients.i think most baby powders use talc not cornstarch
Yes, it's a bad idea. They have carpet/apholstry powder at the stores. Sprinkle on, vaccum off. But, I'd reccomend just using Fabreeze. As for the bugs, ugh. Take an iron as hot a setting as the fabric will allow and run that all over it. I'd probably spray it too with some kind of fabric safe bug spray. Good luck.
Most baby powders use Talc and not cornstarch, unless its specifically says its cornstarch. you will notice a Huge difference in the two powders. the cornstarch will be much more silkier then the talc.
-Its possible that when you put the powder on your couch, it caused the tiny insects..probably mites to come up to the surface. I would try vacuuming it a few more times. I believe they make sprays that you can spray on furniture to rid the apolstry of the mites. Electrolux makes a anti-allergin spray...which seems to work pretty well on things. You may want to try that.
why would put the baby powder there in the first place?
i suggest you stean wash it to get rid of the buggys and also you can spray febreze to kill some of them
