How do I clean a cloudy gemstone ring?

Question:I think my ring is cloudy b/c of the lotion I've put on wearing it and I don't know the proper way to clean it, such as solutions, etc. Thanks in advance!

Answers:
My jeweler told me the best way to clean jewelry is to get some water really hot (not boiling) but super hot. Pour it in a bowl and drop 2 to 3 drops of dish liquid in it and toss in the jewelry and let it soak for a few and then hit w/ an old toothbrush. It is safe, easy and quick!

If its just oily, you can get jewelry cleaner at just about any store, grocery, walmart, etc...
The best way to clean it is to put it in a tea strainer in a pan of boiling water with dawn dish detergent. Let it boil for about five minutes and then rinse. If it is really cruddy, use a soft toothbrush to clean it. You will think the jeweler cleaned it!
if it is gold, you can pick up a jar of jewelery cleaner almost anywhere, stores that sell jewelry.

just soak it awhile and whalla.

silver is another story, its hard to find silver cleaner but you might have some luck.

If you can't get it you can always use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste to clean your ring. take it off (make sure you have a cloth covering the drain in case you drop it) then just rub the bristles of the toothbrush over and under the stone inside any crevices etc. becareful not to push to hard. Make sure the stone is in and the brackets holding the stone have not been bent.

your stone will shine like a beacon.
Soak it in ammonia mixed with a little water for about 1/2 hour. Then scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse. Better yet, most jewelry stores will clean a ring for you for free. So the next time you happen to be walking by one, go in and ask them to clean it.
Any jewelry store, and most jewelry counters inside department stores, sell jewelry cleaning solution. As long as the setting isn't silver and the stone isn't organic, these are just fine. I've seen sonic jewelry cleaners that actually use water instead of chemicals so any jewelry should be safe in them. And if you're feeling frugal, my aunt has a spare head for her electric toothbrush and uses that and a tiny dot of regular toothpaste. It works like a charm.
Use an old toothbrush and a dab of toothpaste, rinse and they always come out sparkly and shiny!
