Have you used vinegar in your rinse cycle? Does the smell actually come out?

Question:I know vinegar is supposed to help remove detergent residue, and it certainly can't hurt in our hard water. I'm worried about the smell, though. Is it noticible when the load is running (I share a laundry room and don't want to gross or freak people out) and does the smell go away when the clothes are clean and dried? I don't want to walk around (or have my baby's butt) smelling like salad dressing.

Answers:
I does smell slightly when you put it in, but it gets diluted so quickly with regular water that you don't notice it.

It doesn't leave a smell on your laundry, or at least it never has when I have used it.

I doubt you'd raise any eyebrows with the folks who share the laundry room, simply because so many people know that vinegar is good for all sorts of things--if they look at you funny, tell them you are trying a new recipe for homemade wine ;)

(And by the way, I have found that the easiest way to dispense it is to use one of those Downy balls, which is supposed to have fabric softener in it. You obviously can use the Downy, as well, but it works just as well for vinegar.)

I've never used it in the rinse cycle, but I do use it in the regular wash cycle. I use maybe 1/2 cup in a full load. I've never used it for detergent residue, but I use it when I want to get the mildew smell out of something. (Like when I forget a load of laundry in the washer.)
The smell does come out in the rinse.
I always do a quick extra rinse. It works well to remove soap residue.
Vinegar is really good at getting out odors you just need to be careful with the quantity to avoid the odor. You need about 1 tablespoon of vinegar for 1 liter of water. More than that and you will have smell issues. I used this formula on my carpets for some pet smell issues and worked like a charm and my house does not smell like a salad.
yes it works, yes it goes away
I cant imagine it would really do anything for clothing. I also dont think it would hurt, and should rinse fairly well with the regular rinse cycle.

I have used it to remove hardwater build up, and soap residue from coffeemakers, rug shampooers, steamers, irons, haircurlers, showerheads, etc...
I have used it in the rinse cycle, and no, the clothes don't come out smelling like vinegar. I've used it on my baby's clothes too, and it works just fine.
