Old stale water. Dump out any water you have in there, add a teaspoon of vinegar, fill iron with distilled water, turn iron on high, steam iron an old towel until water is gone. Refill with distilled water, repeat. Always use distilled water when ironing, always empty any water in the iron out before putting it away.

clean it.

Maybe dead fish
Accumulation of water impurities. Fill the iron with white vinegar for an hour then flush thoroughly with tap water. Might want to use distilled water in the iron in the future both for the iron and for you clothes.
Impurities in the water. Remove the old water from the iron and fill with white vinegar, either use the cleaning cycle on your iron or leave it on steam until vinegar is gone. It would be wise to do this on a routine basis ie:monthly.
Also an idea might be something that your using.a certain spray or whatever on the clothes before or while your ironing.
Next time you make seafood, use the stove, oven, or grill. The iron is only meant to press clothing!
