How do I clean soap scum and hardwater build-up??

Question:I live in a city that hs hard water and I have to clean my shower every week. The thing is that most products at the stores don't even work.. well they work but the scum keeps coming back and its so annoying...I just want to keep the soap scum off. Are there any remedies for this? Any chemicals that I can use that cleans my tub and tiles and leave them sparkling white? I've tried The Works.. it works pretty good but I have to buy it all the time.. since I clean the shower once a week. Help?

Answers:
White vinegar works fantastic to clean the buildup. It may take some time if there's more than a week's buildup. Just use a rag and wet it with the vinegar. White vinegar is inexpensive in the stores, is a disinfectant, and is sold in gallon size at most places.

To prevent buildup, my grandmother always would use her towel to dry off the shower, yes the whole shower area, and the curtain or door. She's 92 and her bathrooms still have the original tiles and it's sparkling clean whenever one looks.

i ALWAYS use bleach when cleaning my shower weekly. i too live in an area where it's REALLY hard water & at the moment i'm having problems with water marks on my shower door but i use bleach for everything!
undiluted white vinagar and elbow grease
Easy bathroom cleaning

Clean your bathroom after a steamy bath or shower. The walls, fixtures, etc., will be much easier to clean because the steam will have loosened the dirt.
Removing film and scum

Use a piece of very fine steel wool to remove film from the shower stall.
Cleaning shower doors

Rub glass shower doors with a white vinegar-dampened sponge to remove soap residue

Bathroom tile

Rub ordinary car wax into your ceramic bathroom tiling to clean and refinish. Let it stand 10 minutes and buff or polish.
Use a typewriter eraser to clean spaces between bathroom tiles.

To repel the soap scum and water spots rub either a dryer sheet or apply a thin coat of fabric softner to the shower door, both methods will also remove soap scum and repel water spots

WD-40 will remove water spots and soap scum, spray on a cloth and scrub lightly then wash off with dishwashing liquid and rinse with hot water
Shine ceramic tiles

If soap scum or water spots have dulled the ceramic tiles around your sink or bath, bring back the brightness by scrubbing them with 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/2 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup borax mixed in 1 gallon (3.7 liters) warm water. Rinse well with cool water and let air-dry

Whiten your grout

Maybe the grout between the tiles of your shower or bathtub enclosure become stained or discolored? Restore it to its original shade of white by using a toothbrush dipped in undiluted white vinegar to scrub away the dinginess
Shine up your shower doors

To leave your glass shower doors sparkling clean -- and to remove all of those annoying water spots -- wipe them down with a cloth dipped in a solution of 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, and 1/4 cup baking soda mixed in 1 gallon (3.7 liters) warm water.

Good Luck !
Go to HEB and buy Sanivac but a spray bottle handle on it and Cover your mouth as it can be hard for some people to breath but its not that bad Leave it for 2 to 5 minutes you will see the hard water melt away I clean for a living I have been doing this 25 years
Unfortunately the only way to keep soap scum and hardwater stains from forming, and that is to not use the shower at all. It doesn't matter what you clean with, how often, etc. As long as you get in there on a daily basis and use soap and hardwater, you will get the build-up and stains from them. Sorry.
go buy a product called CLR
