Microsuede couch cushion covers in washing machine?
Question:I have a beige microsuede couch with removable covers, is it save to put them in the delicate cycle of my washing machine? Have been spot cleaning, which is fine, but with 4 kids..could really use a good cleaning.
Answers:
i don't know if i would. i have cleaned with an upholstery cleaner and pulled tons of dirt up. i have 3 little kids myself. good luck
that would be a very bad idea. they would be ruined. If they need a good cleaing I suggest a professional upholstery cleaner. Some one who knows how to clean leather/ leather type upholstery is what you want.
Your spot cleaning has shown the door to be open to a laundry solution. I recently washed the microsuede cover to a large 'body pillow' and it came out great - but it was a lightweight microfiber and I don't know if your's is heavier or different fabric content. Wash items separate from other clothing; NO BLEACH. TIDE brand might be your best bet. Check the tags on the inside of cushions or the underside of the sofa for Fabric Care Guidelines. If it is a name-brand sofa or fairly new from your local store, call the manufacturer 800 line or call the store for clarification. -- Do you have a matching pillow or smaller matching piece of this fabric you could do a test washing on in the machine? As long as you are using the gentle or wash & wear cycle with the least amount of wringing and wrinkling effect, remove items immediately at end of cycle, spread flat out of the sunshine but in good ventilation, you should have good cleaning and no shrinkage. Drying in a clothes dryer in anything but COLD air might cause some shrinkage, but the weave of a microfibre is so tight anyway that shrinkage from laundry processes might not be an issue. With children / boys, it will always "be Something" spilled on the sofa. After laundering, you might want to experiment with a light layer of sprayed Scotchguard, but check the fabric label on the sofa and read the S-guard can guidelines first. I would think that the microfibre is developed with easy, fairly frequent washing in mind as it is a manmade material for a Modern Age.
