Does washing your clothes inside-out really sustain the quality of the garment?
Question:Sustain the quality of the garment WHILE WASHING that is.
Or is it just another wifes tale?
Answers:
When you wash your clothes, the colder the water the softer your clothes will be , the more heat you add the more they fade. If you hang your clothes outside in the sun, this will bleach the clothes the natural way , this is great for white clothing , but not good for dark colored clothes, So turning them inside out , will stop the color fading . Same with the dryer , the more heat you add to your clothes , the more worn out they become and the heat fades the color
My Mum does that and my clothes are in good condition so probably.
I've heard it can - and manufacturers often include that in their instructions. I guess if the garment has something on it - like silkscreen, or appliques, turning it inside out would keep it from rubbing against other fabrics and the sides of the washing machine.
My guess is the best way to keep a fragile garment's quality would be to hand wash and hang dry (and who has the time?)
Washing a garment inside out is helpful for items with prints on them. Like t-shirts with a print on the front and or back of the shirt. Washing it inside out preserves the shirt in that the agitator does not rub against the print of the shirt and wear away parts of the picture or what not.
Have a good day
Just remember to turn the garment right side out before you ware it lol ;)
That`s only half the solution to sustaining the quality Ferdinand . Your clothes must also be worn inside out so they can air out properly , otherwise they`ll get mouldy .
It depends on the type of clothes.
For shirts with a silk-screened logo, or applique, or other addition, turn inside out. This keeps the other clothes from rubbing against it and wearing away at it.
For sweatshirts with a fleecy soft inside, leave right side out. Otherwise the other clothes will rub against it and turn it hard and nubby.
Here's some snippets from a few websites:
An extra tip: When washing articles with a print or in a specific color, washing clothes inside out helps to preserve the color of the article, and avoids the color or pattern from looking washed out.
Why do some clothing dealers suggest washing clothes inside out?
In the washer, the clothes often turn inside out during the agitation cycle. Turning the clothes inside out first may be easier on the clothing. It limits abrasion on the “good” side of the fabric, reducing “pilling” and extending the life of some fabrics such as corduroy. In addition, any embroidery, decals, and so on are better preserved. It should not affect the performance of the cleaning action to have the clothes inside out during wash.
Some care labels tell you to wash clothes inside out. Does it really make a difference? Real Simple's testing showed that after 10 cold-water washes, jeans that had been laundered and dried inside out were significantly less faded than those washed and dried right-side out.
To find these snippets, I did a web search for "washing clothes inside out" and these were a few of the first pages that popped up.
thats how i wash my clothes & they look brand new all the time
When you wash clothes, the outside surface rubs on each other and makes a light layer of fuzz, which obscures the color of your clothes. Washing them inside out reduces the amount of color loss and damage to t-shirt pix.
No this does not make your clothes wear longer it just prevents colors transferring and becoming covered lint from other garments and towels especially which are the worse offenders when it comes to depositing lint on clothes Good Luck !
