We have 3 cats - 2 of them outdoors. We were INFESTED with fleas last year. I was unable to sit in my livingroom without being bitten for a month before I found something that works and works VERY WELL.
After bombing the house - TWICE with no results I went online and tried a homeopathic method with almost instant results.
BORAX - buy a box (or two or three) of BORAX. Sprinkle it on the carpets, furniture, bedding, etc. wherever you have fleas. Rub it in good. Let it sit for 7 days - it will NOT harm pets/kids etc. Then just vacuum it up.
I have not had a flea problem since.
hardware stores have bug bombs... use a few all thruought your home.
Flea bomb-only way to do it. You can get them at home improvement stores-follow the directions and you should be good to go. Or you can hire an exterminator which is obviously more expensive.

FLEA bombs 1 for each room for 7 hr let them sit. Make sure no one is in the place or animals
Bug bombs are unhealthy but so is vermin. You'll have to bomb em twice or three times to kill off the eggs after they hatch. Then scrub the house so you don't get a load of the poision yourself.

I heard if you put a flea collar in your vacuum bag or canister it will help... borax huh that sounds pretty good to me you can also use bombs but they are a pain and also you can go to the vet and get revolution it costs 20 bucks you put it on your cat and it will prevent fleas for 3 months I think... its the same idea as advantage for dogs... worked really well for my cat...

I would go to Wal-Mart and get a bom for every room in your house/apt. I'd set them all off at once and leave for a couple of hours.
call out your local exterminator. Much cheaper and more effective than trying to do it yourself. The first time will be probably aroung 100 dollars but the following years much cheaper as they will only have to come out to spray your yard.
