Moving Out, what cleans wooden floors best?
Question:I'm moving out of my apartment, and need to clean the wood floors, what cleans wooden floors best? thanks!
Answers:
Well, have you NEVER cleaned them this whole time, Lordy me? Kidding here, am SURE you must have (hoping, hoping). Anyway I always use 50% white vinegar and the rest clean water, mixed, use clean sponge mop but don't saturate the floor. Vinegar is recommended by my wood floor installer, so... Wood doesn't like water. Unless it's a poplar tree, then it kills for water. Moving right along. If waxed, I am no help, vinegar will prob lift the wax which is good if wax is, well...dirty. If polyurethaned then use the product that does NOT dissolve the finish, it comes in a green spray bottle and if you get it in kit (Walmart)it has it's own big flat "mophead" in an almost institutional size rectangle shape. Works good, mop fabric thingy washable, to take to next apt or home? it leaves a fairly shiny clean finish. Good idea, walk back and forth with the grain, the vertical boards, and do this evenly, bring spray bottle along hooked to yr apron pocket. However, if you are under the age of 65 you won't know what an apron is. Don't worry about it. OK? Cheerio.
Wood specific soap and then a buffer.
Murphy's Oil Soap works well with some elbow grease.
Depends a lot on what kind of finishing the floors have. I'd go with the Murphy's Oil, thats what my mom used.
