Is there an Automatic Dishwasher Detergent safe for non-stick cookware?
Question:
Answers:
Actually, most nonstick cookware does NOT claim to be dishwasher safe. Analon, Calphalon, AllClad, Emeril, all dupont teflon specifically warns against it. Even that scratchgard QVC and HSN nonstick which says it is metal utensil safe, asks for handwashing.
It has to do with the detergent, so it's the right question to ask. Dishwasher detergents are designed to be strong enough to disolve food off the plates, thus lessening the bore of having to pre-wash. It will also disolve the nonstick right off your cookware.
I don't know of any that aren't that less caustic, but I would wager that any detergent gentle enough to be harmless to your cookware would not be strong enough to properly clean the rest of your dishes.
Here's what I do...when you are done cooking, wipe the hot pan out with a cotton dish cloth. That will pratically erase the need for washing, or at least cut your wash time down to seconds.
Most non-stick cookware will say that it is dishwasher safe, meaning any d/w detergent can be used. However, I always wash my non-stick cookware by hand to keep the outside of it looking nicer and avoid the white water spots on the non-stick side.
