Is it right to let my dog clean the plates?
Question:my lovely wife says no..but Roxy does it better than me and she just licks them clean...ps yes i have allready asked a similer question!

I always used to let my old hound lick the plates,considering the good washing the plate got when I put it the washer and considering I never suffered any adverse affects,then where`s the problem?

I put my plate down for one of my Dogs to lick clean for me every night. Done it for years. Still here and still doing it. Must say something, surely?

I don't think that would be such a good idea, considering the fact that dogs that eat people food (even if it's just licking the plate clean) are always more prone to unhealthy weight gain (many more adverse effects in dogs gaining weight opposed to people) and other health problems. We used to feed my dog Sugar table food all the time, and I got a nasty lecture from my Vet a few weeks ago when we discovered that she had gained five pounds. Oops! As far as the cleanliness of letting her clean the plates, their mouths ARE cleaner than ours, but NOT cleaner than dishwashing detergent! Plus they lick their, uhm, parts! Blech!

Does the dog lick the pattern of the plates as well, so it looks like there is no need for a dish washer. Think of all the water and electricity you save. Seriously it is not recommended for hygeine reasons and you could get worms and other diseases. Listen to your wife. Women do know whats best. lol
